Team Sahlen, presented by honeybeeBase.com, had high hopes\nentering the weekend for the Mid-Ohio Grand Prix presented by\nMoneyShiftRacing.com with the Tire Rack \u2013 ChampCar Endurance Series.  The team had just come off back to back\ndouble victory at the recent ChampCar Nelson Ledges event in July.  And at last year\u2019s ChampCar Mid-Ohio weekend,\nthe team secured 1st<\/sup> and 2nd<\/sup> Overall for both Saturday\nand Sunday\u2019s double enduros.  The team\nwould be entering their #942 \u201cKetchup\u201d and #943 \u201cMustard Porsche Boxsters.  Drivers would be Joe Sahlen, Joe Nonnamaker,\nWayne Nonnamaker and Will Nonnamaker<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team moved in on Thursday evening, setting up the paddock\nin the Mid-Ohio Garages.  Then on Friday,\nthere was an all day test and tune.  The\nteam took advantage of this opportunity by to shake down both the #942 &\n#943 in advance of the 8 hour Saturday enduro. \nThe #941 \u201cChili\u201d also was put into action, providing all 4 drivers with\nadditional practice time on track. \nAdditionally, Team Sahlen had a set of Hankook Tires that were tested in\nadvance of the team\u2019s anticipated entry in this fall\u2019s Lucky Dog Racing Series\nevent at PittRace.  This was a valuable\nexperience as the team learned what tire pressures worked best for these tires\non track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saturday dawned with beautiful fall Ohio sunny skies.  The random draw for starting position saw the\nteam grided in the back \u00bc of the line up. \nThis opportunity just made it more of a fun challenge for the team to\ntry and make their way to the front of the field.  At the 2 hour mark, the team had risen up to\n4th<\/sup> and 5th<\/sup> overall. \nThe team continued to charge forward, battling some very tough competition\nat the front of the field.  The 2nd<\/sup>\nround of pit stops did not play into the team\u2019s favor as a full green flag pit\nstop was offset by the competition securing a full yellow\/code 35 pit\nstop.  This handicap made for battling\nfor the Overall Victory even more challenging. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team did not let this deter them, and in the 2nd<\/sup>\nhalf of the race, the team made progress in clawing back the time lost in the\npit stops.  At the end of the race, the\ngap had been narrowed down being on the lead lap, less than 90 seconds from 1st<\/sup>\nplace.  The final results in the 7 hour\nenduro was 2nd<\/sup> and 3rd<\/sup> Overall out of 65 entries.  A very, very fine accomplishment in a super\ncompetitive field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joe Sahlen shared his thoughts after the race \u2013 \u201cWhat a great day of racing.\u00a0 I had the opportunity to both start and finish today\u2019s race.\u00a0 We had a perfect race all day.\u00a0 Will and I never dropped a wheel off track or had any penalties on track.\u00a0 To come home 2nd<\/sup> and 3rd<\/sup> Overall was a great reward for everyone\u2019s hard work on the team.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sunday dawned with continued sunny blue skies.  This day the starting order would be reversed,\nplacing Team Sahlen at the very front of the grid.  This greatly assisted Team Sahlen in being\npositioned in the Top 5 early in the race. \nThroughout the early stages of the race, the action was very intense,\nwith the race pace being even faster than the day before.  An on track incident saw the #943 \u201cMustard\u201d\ndrop of back from the lead pack at the 2 hour mark. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the race moved into the middle stages of the race, a full\ncourse caution turned into a red flag situation.  This turn of events placed those competitors\nwhom had been in the pits during the red flag a significant advantage.  Team Sahlen was unfortunately not one of\nthose teams.  This positioned both Hot\nDog Racers in catch up mode for the remainder of the race.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the race went into the final hour of the race, Team\nSahlen was positioned in 3rd<\/sup>  and 6th<\/sup> place.  With just 60 minutes to go, the team made a push\nto advance both Boxsters.  The #942 \u201cKetchup\u201d\nset a blistering pace, lap after lap, passing 2nd<\/sup> place and hunting\ndown the leader.  Then with 15 minutes to\ngo in the race, \u201cKetchup\u201d too the lead and retained the top spot until the checkered\nflag.  The #943 \u201cMustard\u201d made a charge\nas well, and secured 5th<\/sup> place with just 5 minutes to go in the\nrace.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wayne Nonnamaker shared his thoughts after the eventful day of racing \u2013 \u201cWhat an intense race.\u00a0 We didn\u2019t lead this event all day until the last 15 minutes.\u00a0 We had to battle hard all day against some very good competition.\u00a0 Kudos to ChampCar for such great parity in the field.\u00a0 We had Hondas, BMWs, Miatas and Porsches all turning super fast laps and running up front all weekend long.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next event for Team Sahlen will be The Beaver River\nGrand Prix at PittRace with the Tire Rack \u2013 ChampCar Endurance Series on\nOctober 4th<\/sup>-6th<\/sup>. Friday will be a Test & Tune Session.\nAnd then Saturday will be a 8 hour Enduro starting at 9 am.  Then that will be followed with a 7 hour\nenduro on Sunday.  Both events will be\nTelevised on ChampCarLive presented by AutoZone on the ChampCar YouTube channel.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
