{"id":9143,"date":"2024-06-30T20:13:46","date_gmt":"2024-06-30T20:13:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/?p=9143"},"modified":"2024-06-30T20:13:46","modified_gmt":"2024-06-30T20:13:46","slug":"team-sahlen-secures-5th-place-in-pitt-6-hours","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/index.php\/2024\/06\/30\/team-sahlen-secures-5th-place-in-pitt-6-hours\/","title":{"rendered":"Team Sahlen secures 5th Place in Pitt 6 Hours"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"198\" src=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/EK_logo_long_clock_no_bg-1024x198.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9145\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/EK_logo_long_clock_no_bg-1024x198.png 1024w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/EK_logo_long_clock_no_bg-300x58.png 300w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/EK_logo_long_clock_no_bg-768x148.png 768w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/EK_logo_long_clock_no_bg.png 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Team Sahlen, presented by honeybeeBase.com, entered the 3<sup>rd<\/sup>\nAnnual Pittsburgh 6 Hours with the Endurance Karting Series.&nbsp; In the 1<sup>st<\/sup> year of the event, the\nteam entered the event with drivers Wayne, Will &amp; Ian Nonnamaker.&nbsp; This event was the 1<sup>st<\/sup> time in on\ntrack competition for recent High School Graduate Ian Nonnamaker.&nbsp; Young Ian did a solid job in the event,\nfinishing the race, by holding onto 7<sup>th<\/sup> place at the checkered by a\nscant few seconds.&nbsp; In last year\u2019s event,\nWill &amp; Ian drove together and had a close fought event for all 6 hours.&nbsp; In the end the team secured a 9<sup>th<\/sup> place\nfinish, only 45 seconds out of 5<sup>th<\/sup> place. &nbsp;In this year\u2019s event, the driver line up would\ninclude Wayne &amp; Will be Karting Wheel.&nbsp;\nAdditionally, for the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> straight year, Joe Nonnamaker would\nbe calling race strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Due projected inclement weather, the whole schedule for the Endurance\nKarting event was moved up.&nbsp; So the driver\u2019s\nmeeting started bright and early at 7 am.&nbsp;\nThen immediately after this meeting, the competitors went immediately\ninto the Test Sessions.&nbsp; Intermittent rain\nsaw both drivers learning the rain line on the track. This was extra difficult\nas the Karts were all equipped with super durable slick tires, making for treacherous\nconditions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/A7R3951-1-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9146\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/A7R3951-1-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/A7R3951-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/A7R3951-1-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/A7R3951-1-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/A7R3951-1.jpg 1723w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">As soon as the Test Sessions were complete, the event quickly\ntransferred into full practice and qualifying sessions.&nbsp; The track soon dried out, and the team found\nthemselves setting a good pace, 3<sup>rd<\/sup> overall in the practice\nsession.&nbsp; In very brief 10 minute Qualifying,\nthe team was able to find a bit of clear track on the back course with 23 other\ncompetitors to set a time good enough for 8<sup>th<\/sup> Overall.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The race starts for the Endurance Karting series is LeMans\nstyle. This means that all the Karts are lined up on one side of the front\nstraightaway, and the starting drivers are on the opposite side of the track.&nbsp; Starting driver Will Nonnamaker got a very\ngood start, coming around after the 1<sup>st<\/sup> lap in 7<sup>th<\/sup>\nplace.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Will Nonnamaker describes the race start \u2013 <em>\u201cYou don\u2019t think you are going to be nervous at the start of a race with a LeMans start, but then the start gets ready to drop the green flag, and your legs get a bit tweaky and you feel a bit nervous.\u00a0 But then you hope in the Kart and get going and you are off and racing and only are focused on the Kart ahead and behind you for the next dozen laps.<\/em>&#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Endurance Karting - Pitt 6 Hours 2024 LeMans Race Start\" width=\"680\" height=\"383\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8fZOjOI9YE4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">In this series, there is a mandatory 15 stops, with 2 of\nthose being 3 minute kart swaps for fuel.&nbsp;\nThis makes for strategy where it is hard to determine where exactly a\nteam is at on track in respective position to all others. For Team Sahlen, this\nmeant that race strategist Joe Nonnamaker had to continually just focus on what\nwas best for the team\u2019s #77 Kart to secure the best finish.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">In the middle portion of the race, Team Sahlen was riding\ncomfortably in the Top 10, ranging from 6<sup>th<\/sup> to 9<sup>th<\/sup> place.&nbsp; As the race started to wind down to the last\nhour, Team Sahlen could see a glimpse of a 5<sup>th<\/sup> place finish.&nbsp; The drivers knew they had to hit their marks\non the pit stops and to click of fast lap after fast lap. Then when all the\nstops were completed and it was just a race to the finish, the goal of a Top 5\nbecame a real reality.&nbsp; Will took over\nfrom Wayne, whom had just had a super quick stint.&nbsp; Will focused on the task ahead, and reeled off\na string of fast laps, with his final lap the fastest of any Karts last lap of\nthe race.&nbsp; The team crossed the line in 5<sup>th<\/sup>\nPlace.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Pitt 6 Hours on track action\" width=\"680\" height=\"383\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6SibkjXtIr4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Wayne Nonnamaker shared his thoughts after the race <em>\u201cWow, what another fantastic event by Endurance Karting.
