Team Sahlen enters\nthis weekend\u2019s Tire Rack \u2013 ChampCar Endurance Series\u2019 Pittsburgh Grand Prix\nwith high hopes to defend their 2017 & 2018 Overall Victories at the\ntrack.  But with increased competition in\nthe Tire Rack – ChampCar Endurance Series, nothing is for sure. Wayne\nNonnamaker shared his thoughts on the challenge that Team Sahlen faces this\nyear \u2013 \u201cThere are over 70 racers entered\nfor this weekend\u2019s dual enduro races.  This\nis quite a jump from the 50 entries in the 1st<\/sup> race here back in\n2015.  There are a lot of well-prepared\ncars and good drivers that will be aiming for the same goal of winning\noverall.  As the old axiom goes, to win\nyou 1st<\/sup> must finish.  And our team\u2019s\nfocus is to be there at the end of the race. \nThen we can sort out our chances of victory in the last hour of the\nrace.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this year\u2019s\nevent, Team Sahlen will be campaigning their brand-new Porsche Boxster.  In the debut event for the Porsche, the\nSahlen\u2019s Champyard DOG at the Glen, the team secured a very reassuring 4th<\/sup>\nand 3rd<\/sup> in the dual enduro events. \nThen most recently, at the Tire Rack \u2013 ChampCar Endurance Series\u2019 24\nHour of Nelson Ledges, Team Sahlen was able secure the Overall Victory with a flawless\nrace. Joe Nonnamaker shared his thoughts on the victory at this iconic 24 hour\nevent \u2013 \u201cI raced in the inaugural Longest\nDay in 1980.  This year\u2019s event was my 7th<\/sup>\nattempt at this event.  We have secured\nclass wins before and come very close to the overall victory,,,but the top spot\non the podium has been very elusive for us. \nThis year though, we had the absolute most perfect race.  We only spent 3 extra minutes on pit road, and\nthe Boxster did not have 1 scratch on it at the conclusion of the event,,and we\nsecured the OVERALL Victory.\u201d<\/em> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In previous\nchapters of the Pittsburgh events, Team Sahlen had relied upon their venerable\nrotary rockets, their trio of Mazda RX7s. \nIn 2015 & 2016, Team Sahlen\u2019s attempts to secure overall victory at CHampCar\u2019s\nPittsburgh event were respectable finishes of 5th<\/sup> and 3rd<\/sup>\nplace.  Then in 2017, the team had the\nbreak through victory and then backed this up with a 4 foot margin of victory\nin last year\u2019s event. Will Nonnamaker shared his thoughts on these past year\u2019s\nPittsburgh events \u2013 \u201cPittsburgh\nInternational Race Complex seems to be a perfect track for the Mazda RX7.  There are a lot of high speed sweepers and\nmomentum turns that suits the unique characteristics of the rotary rocket.  Hopefully the Boxster fits right into the track\u2019s\ncharacteristics and we can be challenging for the overall victory once again\nthis year.\u201d <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tire Rack \u2013\nChampCar Endurance Series\u2019 Pittsburgh Grand Prix will be held on October 5th<\/sup>\nand 6th<\/sup>.  Saturday\u2019s 8 hour enduro\nrace will start at 9 am and conclude at 5 pm. \nAnd then Sunday\u2019s 7 hour enduro race will start at 9am and conclude at 4\npm.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
