And this determination and love of the sport has seen the team reach\nthe ruby milestone of 40 years in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"796\" height=\"536\" src=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/VWcorrado2-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7324\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/VWcorrado2-1.jpg 796w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/VWcorrado2-1-300x202.jpg 300w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/VWcorrado2-1-768x517.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 796px) 100vw, 796px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Joe Nonnamaker shared his thoughts &#8211; <em>\u201cTo\nthink that this team started back in 1984 and is still racing in Endurance\nSports Car Racing to this day is truly amazing.&nbsp;\nIf there was an endurance series for sports cars in the last 4 decades,\nour team has most likely competed within it.&nbsp;\nTo have been around at the beginning during the 80s when showroom stock\nstreet car racing started exploding was an experience we will never\nforget.&nbsp; Taking cars off the dealership\nfloor and trying to make them last 24 hours was a quite an undertaking.&nbsp; Then as the team grew, to expand into the\nelite level of the IMSA ROLEX series with the fire breathing GT and Prototype\nracers was legendary.&nbsp; That is the top of\nthe top of endurance sports car racing, and we competed and had good success at\nthat level.&nbsp; And now to come full circle\nand be racing within Sportsman Endurance Sports Car with such organizations as the\nTire Rack \u2013 ChampCar Endurance Series.&nbsp;\nThis series represents all that is great and fantastic about just going\nout and driving your car as fast as you can against the competition and against\nthe clock.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"684\" src=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/356222729_6177207355728502_7104009941965271014_n-1024x684.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7326\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/356222729_6177207355728502_7104009941965271014_n-1024x684.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/356222729_6177207355728502_7104009941965271014_n-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/356222729_6177207355728502_7104009941965271014_n-768x513.jpg 768w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/356222729_6177207355728502_7104009941965271014_n-1536x1025.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/356222729_6177207355728502_7104009941965271014_n.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">It all started in 1984, when brothers Bill &amp; Phil Pate decided to start a\nteam to enter the inaugural season of the SCCA Endurance Series.&nbsp; In that season, the team\u2019s VW Rabbit swept to\nvictory in all 4 races in the SSC Class enroute to the championship.&nbsp; This was followed up in 1987 with securing\nthe SCCA Escort Endurance Series SSB Class championship&nbsp; The drivers leading the charge in this season\nwere Alistair Oag and Peter Schwartzott. The team continued competing in\nVolkswagens throughout the 80s, including the Golf, GTI, Scirocco and\nCorrado.&nbsp; &nbsp;As the team entered the 90\u2019s, the Nonnamaker\nfamily joined the team.&nbsp; This included\nJoe Nonnamaker as driver, along with Kris Nonnamaker heading up the Timing\n&amp; Scoring and Meal Prep for the crew.&nbsp;\nAdditionally, Joe\u2019s 2 sons, Wayne &amp; Will, were a part of the weekend\npit crew.&nbsp; In the years to come, Wayne\n&amp; Will would take their turns behind the wheel driving, leading to even\nfurther on-track success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"679\" src=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5736-2-1-1024x679.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7325\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5736-2-1-1024x679.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5736-2-1-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5736-2-1-768x510.jpg 768w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5736-2-1-1536x1019.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5736-2-1-2048x1359.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">As Volkswagen ceased their\nMotorsports division, the team sought out a new manufacturer to partner with to\nrise to the front of the grid.&nbsp; A\nconnection with fellow competitor John Torok resulted in a partnership with\nMazda.&nbsp; Mazda was ready to introduce\ntheir brand new MX6 model, and the team was chosen to lead the charge on track\nin the IMSA Firestone Firehawk Endurance Series.&nbsp; This year of 1993 was also significant as it\nsaw Lead Mechanic Mike Thomas join the team full time.&nbsp; Mike became the heart and soul of race car\nprep for the team through the next 30 years.&nbsp;\nEven as Mike retired to Florida in 2015, he has continued to be a\nweekend warrior at the team\u2019s races.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"456\" src=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Mazda626atlanta.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7327\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Mazda626atlanta.jpg 700w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Mazda626atlanta-300x195.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">As the team worked to\ndevelop the MX6, the team continued to move to the sharp end of the grid.&nbsp; Then in 1997 the team broke through and\nsucceeded in securing the IMSA SpeedVision Cup Endurance Series Touring Class Championship.&nbsp; This was then followed up in 1999, with the\nteam now racing Mazda\u2019s 626 model to the Motorola Cup Touring Class title.&nbsp; This year saw the brother pairing of Wayne &amp;\nWill Nonnamaker bring home the Driver title. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/jfn-27-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7328\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/jfn-27-2.jpg 500w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/jfn-27-2-300x180.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">As the 2000s started, the team took on the new\nchallenge of competing in 2 different classes of racing all in the same weekend.&nbsp; This bold direction started with a campaign\nof a Chevrolet Corvette and 2 Acura Integras.&nbsp;\nThe team was able to achieve success in 2001 with both brands.&nbsp; The Corvette was able to win Overall at the\nPhoenix round, enroute to assisting Chevrolet securing the Grand-Am Cup SGS\nManufacturer Title.&nbsp; And with the Acura\nIntegras, the team secured the Touring Class Team, Manufacturer and Team\nChampionships. This success continued into 2002, as the team secured another\nTouring class Team, Manufacturer and Team Championship. Will &amp; Wayne\nNonnamaker were the recipients of the driver\u2019s title in both of these seasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" src=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Acuramo-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7329\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Acuramo-1.jpg 500w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Acuramo-1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Next the team moved up to the GS class in the Grand Am\nCup and secured the Team, Manufacturer and Team Championship in both 2003 &amp;\n2004, racing Porsche 911s.&nbsp; For 2003, Joe &amp; Wayne Nonnamaker secured\nthe driver\u2019s title, and in 2004 the title was secured by Craig Staton.&nbsp; &nbsp;At\nthis same time, the team transitioned to the Grand American ROLEX series\ncompetition.&nbsp; Winning 2 times, the team\nassisted Porsche securing the 2004 and 2005 GT Manufacturer Championships.&nbsp; Uniquely, the 2 Class Victories were secured\nby solo drives by Wayne Nonnamaker, with his Mid-Ohio victory being named the\nROLEX raced of the year. And then after Wayne\u2019s achievement, the Grand American\nROLEX series made a ruling to ban solo drives in the series.&nbsp; Additionally, in 2005 Will Nonnamaker drove\nto the inaugural Grand American ROLEX GT Class \u201cBob Akin\u201d Sportsman Award\npresented to the top finishing non pro rated driver in the series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/03gacvirj-80-4.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7330\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/03gacvirj-80-4.jpeg 600w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/03gacvirj-80-4-300x200.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The 2005 season was also very special as it saw the\nstart of a brand new chapter in the team, that continues to this day.&nbsp; This chapter was partnering of the Sahlen\n&amp; Nonnamaker families.&nbsp; The team took\non the moniker of Team Sahlen.&nbsp; And\nthrough the years this brand identity has become synonymous with a hard-working\nfamily oriented team focused on excellence in preparation and success on track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"499\" height=\"333\" src=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/TRII.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7334\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/TRII.jpg 499w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/TRII-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 499px) 100vw, 499px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Joe Sahlen shared his thoughts \u2013 <em>\u201cI never imagined\nin 2005, when I sat there at the press conference in Daytona with Will\nintroducing our campaign, that the journey would be so amazing and last for\nover a next decade and half.&nbsp; I have had\nthe thrills of seeing a Sahlen\u2019s racer leading the Sahlen\u2019s Six Hours of the\nGlen to seeing our Prototype sitting on Pole Position overall in ROLEX\nrace.&nbsp; Personally, I have been able to\nrace at so many amazing tracks.&nbsp; And the\nsuccess we have had as a team in the last 10 years racing in the Sportsman\nEndurance Sports Car series has been just incomparable to what I could ever\ndream.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"499\" height=\"333\" src=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/MidOhioDodge3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/MidOhioDodge3.jpg 499w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/MidOhioDodge3-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 499px) 100vw, 499px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Over the next few years, the team continued racing in\nthe Grand American ROLEX and Grand-Am Cup.&nbsp;\nThe race cars competed in where quite the eclectic collection of\nautomobiles: Porsche GT3 Cup, Porsche 911, Dodge SRT4, Chevrolet Corvette and\nPontiac GTO.&nbsp; This period of time saw\nTeam Sahlen grow their ability to develop and then race a variety of\nequipment.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/glen09-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7335\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/glen09-2.jpg 600w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/glen09-2-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">In 2009, the Team made a return to partnering with\nMazda.&nbsp; The team entered 3 Mazda RX8s in\nthe ROLEX series and a combination of RX8s and Mazdaspeed3 in the Grand Am\nCup.&nbsp; The team focused hard to assist\nMazda in rising to the top of the GT class, cumulating in the 2010 GT\nManufacturer\u2019s title.&nbsp; And then in 2011,\nWayne Nonnamaker followed in his brother\u2019s footsteps in securing that season\u2019s\nGrand American ROLEX GT Class \u201cBob Akin\u201d Sportsman Award.&nbsp; The team also expanded their Mazda campaign\nin this season, by entering their 1<sup>st<\/sup> Tire Rack \u2013 ChampCar Endurance\nSeries event with their Mazda RX7, securing 11<sup>th<\/sup> out of 77 entries\nin the Nelson Ledges Longest Longest Day 25 hour and 25 minutes event. To cap\noff the Mazda campaign, the team secured the ROLEX GT Class Victory at the 2012\nMazda Raceway \u2013 Laguna Seca.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/5534_6-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7337\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/5534_6-1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/5534_6-1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Wayne Nonnamaker shared his thoughts on this historic\nday \u2013 <em>\u201cI will never forget that day as long as I live.&nbsp; To be able to deliver that one last victory\nto Mazda was so special.&nbsp; The joy and\nexcitement of the whole team in victory circle could hardly be contained.&nbsp; This win was even more poignant and memorable\nas this was the last professional victory by a Rotary engine and it occurred at\nthe track sponsored by Mazda.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/6061264076_2263e39393_b-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7336\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/6061264076_2263e39393_b-1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/6061264076_2263e39393_b-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/6061264076_2263e39393_b-1-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>Sahlen&#8217;s Six Hour at the Glen<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">For 2013, the team made their biggest leap by\ncompeting in the Prototype class of the Grand-American ROLEX Series.&nbsp; The team entered 2 BMW Powered \u2013 Riley\nChassis.&nbsp; Although the team was brand new\nto the Prototype category facing very stiff competition, the season was a\nsuccessful venture.&nbsp; The team secured 2\nPole Positions and led several races throughout the year. And in the end, Wayne\nNonnamaker secured the Grand American ROLEX Prototype \u201cJim Trueman\u201d Sportsman\nAward.
