{"id":2622,"date":"2021-10-07T18:42:39","date_gmt":"2021-10-07T18:42:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/?p=2622"},"modified":"2021-10-07T18:42:39","modified_gmt":"2021-10-07T18:42:39","slug":"team-sahlen-secures-three-victories-at-pittsburgh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/index.php\/2021\/10\/07\/team-sahlen-secures-three-victories-at-pittsburgh\/","title":{"rendered":"Team Sahlen secures three Victories at Pittsburgh"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Team Sahlen, presented by honeybeeBase.com, entered the Tire\nRack \u2013 ChampCar Endurance Series at Pittsburgh International Race Complex on\nracing hig.&nbsp; This was a result of\nsecuring 1<sup>st<\/sup> Place in both the Saturday and Sunday Enduros with the\nChampCar Series just a few weeks before at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.&nbsp; With competition fierce in the Tire Rack \u2013\nChampCar Endurance Series, Team Sahlen knew that they would have their work cut\nout for them to even come close to duplicating this result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5219-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2554\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5219-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5219-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5219-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5219-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5219.jpg 1632w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Friday was an optional Test Day, and Team Sahlen utilized\nthe opportunity to not only test their \u201cKetchup\u201d &amp; \u201cMustard\u201d Porsche\nBoxsters for the ChampCar event, but to also get some valuable seat time for\ndrivers Jacob Grimm and Joseph Sahlen who would racing the #941 \u201cCharcoal\u201d\nMazda RX7. The Test Day was beautiful blue skies, and team was able to get in\nsome very quality laps around the track.&nbsp;\nThe Test Day was successful with everyone receiving plenty of quality\nlaps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"http:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2521-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2579\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2521-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2521-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2521-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2521.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Saturday dawned with beautiful blue skies and dry track,\nwhich is exactly how Team Sahlen likes to go racing.&nbsp; With 60 entries, managing traffic would be\nessential.&nbsp; Team Sahlen received the \u201cbind\ndraw\u201d starting slots of last on the grid.&nbsp;\n&nbsp;But the Team Sahlen drivers knew\nthat the race was a long 8 hour enduro, and took their time working through\ntraffic.&nbsp; And then at an hour and half\ninto the race, Team Sahlen was running 2<sup>nd<\/sup> and 3<sup>rd<\/sup>\nOverall.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Throughout the rest of the race, Team Sahlen would face a\nstrong challenge from the Porsche 944 of Visceral Racing.&nbsp; Lap after lap, the 2 Porsches dualled it out\nat the front of the pack.&nbsp; Then as the\ncars pitted for the their last stops of the day, disaster unfortunately struck\nfor Visceral Racing, as their window net fell down after the pit stop.&nbsp; This short delay for a 2<sup>nd<\/sup> stop in\nthe pits, placed the #943 \u201cMustard\u201d with a comfortable lead that lasted to the\ncheckered flag, to secure 1<sup>st<\/sup> OVERALL and 1<sup>st<\/sup> in C\nClass.&nbsp; In an eventful day, #941\n\u201cCharcoal\u201d survived several on-track incidents to come home 13<sup>th<\/sup>\nOVERALL and 2<sup>nd<\/sup> in B Class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"http:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2406-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2615\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2406-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2406-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2406-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/teamsahlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2406.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Joe Sahlen shared his thoughts after the amazing race \u2013 <em>\u201cThat\nwas a very hard fought victory today.&nbsp; We\nhad some really tough competition from the Visceral 944.&nbsp; I don\u2019t think we put a wheel wrong all day,\nin what was a near perfect execution on track and in the pits.&nbsp; The crew prepared a great car that ran\nflawlessly all day.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Sunday dawned again with overcast skies and precipitation in\nthe air.&nbsp; \u201cMustard\u201d would start a lap\ndown due to the Saturday victory.&nbsp; This\nlap was quickly snatched back by a super great 1<sup>st<\/sup> stint by Joe\nSahlen wheeling the Porsche racer ahead of the competition. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;As the race continued to unfold, the track\nwould vary from dry to wet.&nbsp; This put\nextra pressure on the Team Sahlen drivers to be able to maximize lap times with\nthe ever changing conditions.&nbsp;&nbsp; The\ncompetition on Sunday was even stiffer than the day before, with not only the\nVisceral Racing 944, but the dual entry of RVA Graphics\u2019 BMW a threat all race\nlong.&nbsp; Some very, very fortunate full\ncourse cautions saw the #943 \u201cMustard\u201d entry sneak out a 1 lap lead with 2\nhours to go in the race.&nbsp; Despite several\nfull course cautions late in the event, Team Sahlen retained the lap lead to\nsecure the OVERALL victory and Class C win.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The race of the day for Team Sahlen though came from the\n#941 \u201cCharcoal\u201d Mazda RX7.&nbsp; Jacob Grimm\n&amp; Joseph Sahlen built upon their track time from Saturday and put in a\nspectacular drive.&nbsp; With only a flat tire\ncausing a slight delay in the pits, the rotary rocket ran smoothly all\nday.&nbsp; And at the conclusion to the race,\n\u201cCharcoal\u201d secured 8<sup>th<\/sup> OVERALL and 1<sup>st<\/sup> in B Class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Jacob Grimm shared his thoughts \u2013 \u201cWhat a fantastic\nday.&nbsp; This is the 10 Anniversary of\nCharcoal racing in ChampCar.&nbsp; I remember\nbuilding this RX7 and running it in the 25 hours at Nelson that year. We\nfinished 11<sup>th<\/sup> out of 72 racers that year.
