Team Sahlen, presented by honeybeeBase.com, entered the Tire\nRack \u2013 ChampCar Endurance Series event at Nelson Ledges Road Course, fully\nexpecting a mid July scorching hot and dry weekend.  Instead the team was greeted with a duluge of\ndownpour and flooded track.  This made for\neven parking the rigs and set up the paddock a challenge at best.  Friday was a test day, and Team Sahlen worked\non both dry and wet set up during the spurts of downpour and sunshine during\nthe day.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saturday dawned with continued downpours, and treacherous track\nconditions.  The carousel was flooded on\nthe inside, covering up 4 feet of the apex. \nThe back straightaway was flooded in the grass touching all the way up\nto the pavement.  Turn 12 brake zone had\na very small river causing some delicate pedal control.  The front straight had a very sizeable river\nrunning right across the track before the bridge. This caused the drivers to\nhave to lift to avoid hydroplaning into the bridge retainers.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Team Sahlen drivers of Joe Sahlen, Joe Nonnamaker, Wayne\nNonnamaker and Will Nonnamaker used their vast years of experience to manage\nthe ever changing track conditions and the spinning traffic on track.  At the mid point in the race, the #943 \u201cMustard\u201d\nwas able to sneak into the lead based on pit stop patterns.  The #942 \u201cKetchup\u201d was also running a very\nsolid Top 3 as well, until a slight off track excursion on track caused for a delay,\nmoving the Boxster back to 5th<\/sup> at the finish.  The #943 \u201cMustard\u201d continued all the way up\nto the end of the race contesting for the win, finally settling for 2nd<\/sup>\nplace at the checkered flag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joe Nonnamaker shared his thoughts – \u201cThat was some very treacherous\nconditions.  Especially the flooding\naround and on the track.  In my many\nyears of racing at Nelson, this might have been the most difficult laps I have\ndriven here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sunday dawned with blue skies and zero chance of rain in the\nforecast.  Additionally, the random\nstarting order draw saw the team\u2019s Porsche Boxsters start at the front of the\ngrid.  This good fortune led to Team\nSahlen being able to run in the Top 5 for the 1st<\/sup> stint of the\nrace.  The #943 \u201cMustard\u201d that had such a\nsolid day on Saturday started to suffer from a transmission issue at the mid\npoint, forcing the team to unfortunately retire from a very solid 4th<\/sup>\nplace Overall.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The #942 \u201cKetchup\u201d fought hard all day in the Top 5.  With the race wounding down in the last 2\nhours, a monumental drive by Wayne Nonnamaker saw the Porsche move from 5th<\/sup>\nto 3rd<\/sup> place, with a great dual in the closing laps with the RBank\nHonda that had won Saturday\u2019s race.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wayne Nonnamaker shared his thoughts \u2013 \u201cWhat a great race at\nthe end.  The RBank Honda was running\nsome great laps, and we had a very close but fair race at the end there in last\nfew laps.  Our Porsche Beachwood Boxster\nran flawlessly all day to ensure we could secure this podium slot.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next event for Team Sahlen will be the Tire Rack \u2013\nChampCar Endurance Series event at Mid-Ohio Sport Car Course on September 11-12<\/p>\n\n\n\n
