The weekend\nstarted off with beautiful sunny skies and unusually warm weather for Ohio in\nlate October. The Friday Test Day\/Practice\/Qualifying saw Team Sahlen continue\nto work on refining their set up with the new Audi.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Team Sahlen\nachieved the amazing accomplishment of securing overall victories at the Summit\nRacing \u2013 American Endurance Series event at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course with 2\ndifferent makes of race cars.  During\nSaturday\u2019s 8 \u00bd hour enduro, #43 \u201cRetro\u201d Audi R8 LMS GT3 secured a come from\nbehind overall victory.  Then on Sunday\u2019s\n8 \u00bd hour enduro, #41 \u201cLunatic\u201d Porsche Cayman GT4 secured the overall victory.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Will Nonnamaker\nshared the pre-race prep on the Audi – \u201cThe crew worked very hard the week\nprior to the race to get the new Audi prepared. \nThere was an Open Test & Tune here at Mid-Ohio the prior Thursday,\nand we were able to take advantage of the three 20 minutes sessions.  We learned a lot about the adjustments we\nneeded to make leading up to the race. \nIn fact we were able to make further adjustments even during Friday\u2019s\nqualifying based off of the things we learned at the Open Test and Tune.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saturday saw a\nfull 50+ field take the green flag.  Team\nSahlen quickly led the way at the front in the new Audi R8.  As well, the #42 \u201cSaucy\u201d Porsche Cayman sat comfortably\nin 3rd<\/sup> place Overall.  A mid\nday incident with traffic saw the Audi needing to make a trip to the garage for\nquick repairs.  The Team Sahlen crew was\nefficient and quick and had the R8 back on track in less than 10 minutes.  During the next few hours the #42 \u201cSaucy\u201d\nassumed the lead in the race. Unfortunately for \u201cSaucy\u201d, a transmission glitch\nput the Cayman out of the race and ended the weekend for the #42.  But making a hard charge from the back of the\nfield was #43 \u201cRetro\u201d.  As the clock\nwound down on the 8 \u00bd hour enduro, amazingly \u201cRetro\u201d had risen to the top of the\nleader board as the checkered flag flew.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joe Sahlen shared\nhis thoughts after the race \u2013 \u201cI really enjoyed driving the new Audi R8\ntoday.  It is an amazing piece of\nmachinery.  It was pure joy every lap\naround the track.  The crew did an\namazing job getting us back out there. \nThen Will and I just drove hard, with a never give up attitude to get\nback to the front.  Quite a way to debut\na new race car with an Overall win.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sunday saw Team\nSahlen bring the #41 \u201cLunatic\u201d Porsche Cayman GT4 out of the garage in place of\nthe #42 \u201cSaucy\u201d, that was retired for the weekend.  The weather continued to be clear and beautiful,\nwith the temperature even a bit higher in the high 60s\u2019.  Both Team Sahlen race cars charged to the\nfront and ran 1st<\/sup> and 2nd<\/sup> Overall for much of the event.  In the end of the long battles during the day,\nthe #41 secured 1st<\/sup> Overall and the #43 secured the 3rd<\/sup>\nplace Overall.  Team Sahlen\u2019s steady\nracing on both days saw the Overall Weekend awards of 1st<\/sup> and 3rd<\/sup>\nin the Class 5 category.  Additionally,\nWill Nonnamaker\u2019s Overall Victories in both Saturday and Sunday\u2019s races saw him\nreceive the Top Driver of the weekend award. \n<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joe Nonnamaker\nsummed up the weekend \u2013 \u201cWhat great weekend of racing.  I had fun on both days of racing.  Its hard to put into words what its like to\ndrive the Audi R8.  It really was a\npleasure to drive \u201cRetro\u201d around my favorite race track, Mid-Ohio.  And then to be able to go up on the podium\nwith all my granddaughters was just icing on the cake.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
