Team Sahlen, presented by\nhoneybeeBase.com, will be returning to Viriginia International Raceway for the\n1st<\/sup> time in 11 years.  The\nlast time the team raced at VIR was at the IMSA Continental Tire Series event,\nwhere the team secured a 4th<\/sup> place finish in the ST class in their #43\n\u201cPepper\u201d Porsche Cayman.  The team 1st<\/sup>\nraced at Virigina International Raceway in 2000.  This was the very 1st<\/sup> event of the\ntrack\u2019s re-grand opening after having been closed for 2 decades prior.  Over the years Team Sahlen competed in over 15\nraces at the track, securing 5 victories along the way.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event that Team Sahlen will be competing in will be the \u201cVirginia is for Lucky Dog Lovers\u201d with the Lucky Dog Racing League.  The team has competed 1 time before in series \u2013 last year\u2019s Pittsburgh event.  In that event, the #942 \u201cKetchup\u201d Porsche Boxster secured the OVERALL Victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this year\u2019s event,\nthe team will again be entering the #942 \u201cKetchup\u201d and #943 \u201cMustard\u201d Porsche\nBoxsters.  The drivers will be Joe\nSahlen, Joe Nonnamaker, Wayne Nonnamaker and Will Nonnamaker.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team riding high\nafter a strong start to the season having won the Daytona 14 Hours and both the\nof the 7 hour Memorial Day Enduros at Watkins Glen.  These victories were in the Tire Rack \u2013 ChampCar\nEndurance Series.  The race cars used in\nthese victories will be the same Porsche Boxsters that the team will be racing\nthis weekend in Lucky Dog \u2013 with a few slight modifications to adjust for the\ndifferent rules.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wayne Nonnamaker shared\nhis excitement for the weekend ahead \u2013 \u201cVirginia is one of my favorite\ntracks.  It has a real flow to it and\ngoing fast here requires extreme precision and daring bravery.  Especially going up through the esses.  I remember got flat through them in our old\nAcura Intregras.  And as well I remember\nhaving to lift in our Mazda RX8 GT racers. \nI am expecting the Porsche Boxsters to be somewhere in between lifting\nand flatout.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The competition will be new\nteams that Team Sahlen is never faced before. \nThis will make the weekend extra challenging.  As well, the team will be racing on the series\nspec Hankook Tires.  This will be a bit\nof a deviation from what the Team has experienced in the past which will\nrequire some adjustments.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joe Nonnamaker shared his thoughts \u2013 \u201cIt has been 14 years since I last raced here at Virigina.  It is a really challenging track.  To get prepared, I have been doing a lot of iRacing, to get the feel back for the track.  I did the same thing for Daytona and Watkins Glen, and it really helped me prepare.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The weekend\u2019s events start on Friday, June 27th with a morning practice\/qualifying \u2013 that will then be soon followed up with the start of the 7 hour event.   Saturday will dawn with an 8 hour enduro starting at 9 am. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
