Race Weekend News Report & Quotes:
Team Sahlen, presented by honeybeeBase.com, will be racing at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this weekend. The team will be competing in the American Endurance Racing dual 8 ½ hour Endurance races. The team had been scheduled to compete with American Endurance Racing in the beginning of September. But unfortunately, Hurricane Florence put a damper on the weekend, forcing the cancellation of the race. Joe Nonnamaker shared his thoughts in anticipation of racing this weekend – “We were very excited to get to race at Summit Point in early September. Understandably, Hurricane Florence was significant situation that was impacting West Virginia area. American Endurance Racing made the right decision to cancel the event. Now we are back at our home track of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. We raced here in September with the World Racing League Endurance Series. So the good news is that all of our Team Sahlen drivers have just recently been on track, getting re-accustomed to this challenging course.” When Team Sahlen last raced with the American Endurance Racing series way back in April at the Sahlen’s Sports Car Springfest at the Glen. At this event Team Sahlen was fortunate to secure the OVERALL Victory in both Saturday’s and Sunday’s 9 Hour Endurance Events. Will Nonnamaker shared Team Sahlen’s preparations for this upcoming race – “Even though we were able to secure the overall Victories at Watkins Glen, the combined margin of victory of both wins was something like 15 seconds. We know the competition is always moving forward. The whole crew worked very hard over the summer to fine tune our Porsche. We made many visits to Dragway 42 just up the road from Mid-Ohio to test some new refinements to Caymans. This should be a very exciting race and we hope to be able to be at the sharp end of the pack with both of our race cars.” The weekend will start with open practice on Friday. Then on Saturday will be the 1st of the double header 8 ½ hour endurance events. After the Saturday race is complete, all the teams will get back up on Sunday for another 8 ½ hour endurance race.
