< Back to News Home Team Sahlen excited to conclude season at the new National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park

Posted (10/25/2017) -

Team Sahlen presented by honeybeeBase.com will be making their 1st ever visit to the newly opened National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky.  The event will be the season finale for the American Endurance Racing Series.  The races will take place on the full 3.15 Mile course. The course is located just across Route 75 from the National Corvette Museum.

Joe Nonnamaker shared his excitement of going to Bowling Green -

“Growing up, I was a huge Corvette fanatic.  As soon as a graduated College, I saved up enough money to buy a Corvette.  From there my passion for all things Corvette grew.  Through the years, I have been able to race a C5 and C6 Corvette.  I have actually never been the Corvette Museum, so hopefully we can find some time during the weekend to make our way over to tour the halls.”

“It will be fun getting to learn a whole new circuit.  This is a very long track at over 3 miles.  It will take several laps to be able to master the course.  It looks like there are a lot of sweeping, high momentum turns which will make for a real challenge for all drivers to keep their speed up.  I can’t wait to get on track.” – shared Wayne Nonnamaker

At this weekend’s dual 9 hour enduros, Team Sahlen will be entering and racing their Porsche Caymans equipped with PDK Transmissions.  Team Sahlen recently raced with American Endurance Racing at the Mid-Ohio event.  At this recent event , Team Sahlen secured had a very strong showing.  The Team secure Pole Position during Friday’s Qualifying session.  Then during Saturday’s 8 ½ enduro,  both Porsche Caymans were running in the top three overall.  At the 5 hour mark in the race, the team was leading by three laps when an unfortunate drive shaft put the team back, with a net 3rd place in class.  Sunday saw Team Sahlen charge hard and score an overall victory, redeeming’s Saturday’s heart breaking mechanical misstep.

Car Chief Tony Artino shared his thoughts on lessons learned from the most recent race We are still learning so much about the Porsche PDK Automatic Transmission.  The team had some additional learning lessons from the Mid-Ohio weekend.  We went back to the shop and worked on some of these learnings and hopefully this weekend will the success on track again.”

Drivers for this weekend’s race will be Joe Sahlen and Joe, Wayne & Will Nonnamaker.  The weekend will start off with open practice on Friday morning.  Then the afternoon will see all the entries go out for qualifying to set the grid for Saturday’s 8 1/2 enduro.  Saturday’s race will start at 8:30 am and conclude at 5 pm.  The Sunday grid will be determined by Saturday’s race results.
