Posted (04/30/2014) -

The 1st two events on the 2014 Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge series occurred very quickly at the start of the new year.  For Team Sahlen this made things extra difficult, since the decision to switch from the Daytona Prototype Class to the ST class of the Continental Series did not occur till mid November.  Therefore, the 1st two races for Team Sahlen was going to be all about learning on the go at each track.

Team Sahlen Driver Wayne Nonnamaker added his thoughts – “We have had such great success here at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca over the past few years.  Two years ago we gave the Rotary motor a send off victory. Then last year we qualified 3rd and we in the midst of leading, when we collided with a GT car and the DP leader.  I really love this track, and hope that we can challenge the ST class leaders this weekend.”

Wayne will be finishing the #42 Team Sahlen racer for his brother Will Nonnamaker.  Will will be pulling double duty this weekend, as he will not only be starting the #42, but finishing the #43 racer, that will be started by his father, Joe Nonnamaker.

“We are going to miss having Joe Sahlen here with us this weekend.  He and Dad had a fantastic finish of 13th out of 33 in the ST class.  It will be a challenge to improve or even duplicate that excellent result.  There is a chance that I might not even take my helmet off during the pit stop, and just run from one car to the next.  I have been working out doubly hard at home, and watching my diet, in preparation for this.” – inserted Will Nonnamaker

Currently Team Sahlen is tied for 3rd Place in the ST Class Team Championship.  Additionally, Porsche is in 3rd place in the ST Class Manufacturer’s Title.  If Porsche were to win the title, it would be the 1st time in the 30 year history of the ST Class that the Stuttgart Brand would have captured the title.  With all the Manufacturer titles that Porsche has won over the years, for this title to have alluded the brand is an amazing statistic.

The Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge event at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will occur on May 3rd at 12:45 pm pst (3:45 pm est).  The telecast of the race will be on FoxSports1 at 10 am est, May 11th.
