< Back to News Home Team Sahlen confirms 2 Prototypes for the new Tudor United SportsCar Championship

Posted (10/08/2013) -

Team Sahlen will be entering the inaugural 2014 Tudor United SportsCar Championship with 2 entries in the Prototype class competing for the Overall Victories. The #42 & #43 Entries will be the same BMW Powered Riley Chassis that the team campaigned in 2013 in the Grand American ROLEX Sports Car Series.  There were several highlights to the team’s initial 2013 campaign in the Prototype class that included 2 Pole Positions, many laps led and solid Top 5 and Top 10s by both entries.

For 2014, there will be several modifications made to adapt the prior Daytona Prototype racers into the newly formed prototype class that includes the LMP2s raced in the American LeMans Series.  Although these rules are not announced yet, it is anticipated these modifications will include increased horsepower and improved aerodynamics.  For that increase horsepower, Team Sahlen will continue to rely upon their ever reliable Dinan built BMW motors to power them to the finish line.

In the Driving Line-Up, Team Sahlen is excited to announce that the #42 entry will continue to have the “Wayne & Dane Show” of Wayne Nonnamaker and Dane Cameron behind the wheel.   Wayne adapted quickly to his 1st year of Prototype competition, winning the Jim Trueman Sportsman Award.  Dane Cameron more than proved his competency behind the wheel of a Prototype, proving that he truly is one of the next great up and coming American drivers to watch in the years ahead.

“I am excited to be paired back up with Dane.  I think we make a great combo and hopefully in 2014 we can do more than just surprise the competition, but rise to the next level and be a strong contender week in and week out.” – shared Wayne Nonnamaker

In the #43 entry, the father and son duo of Joe & Will Nonnamaker will return.  The duo will most likely hold the distinction of being the only full sportsman line-up in the entire Prototype class.

"We are excited to be competing in the inaugural Tudor United SportsCar Championship.  Being in a series sanctioned by IMSA is very nostalgic for me especially.  I entered my 1st IMSA race in 1984 driving in the IMSA Racing Sedan Champion Spark Plug Challenge Series.  I doubt there are few that are still at the track today from that bygone era,,,perhaps Tom Seabolt, Joe Varde, Kevin Doran and Hurley Haywood come to mind.  I think this should be a very exciting year and I am glad to be here to be a part of it.”  -shared Joe Nonnamaker

Leading the Engineering for Team Sahlen will be Catherine Crawford, whom has been with the team since 2011.  With the increase in Aerodynamic elements in the Prototype ranks, Catherine’s background, that includes stints at Jordan F1, will be crucial in the team’s development progress.

On the Personnel side, the core crew will be back in action preparing the Prototypes.  Leading the way, will be Team Manager Jay Chapman who has been with the team since 2009.  During Jay time as Team Manager, Team Sahlen had the most number of entries in the Grand American ROLEX Series.

Additionally, spectators can also look forward to the continuation of the fan friendly antics of Team Sahlen.  From the team’s eye catching paint scheme, to official mascot Hot Dog Boy, the cartoon Fan Cards and the $10 Hot Dog Hats,,,Team Sahlen will be back with fast action on the track and fun in the paddock.
