< Back to News Home Wayne Nonnamaker leads the Jim Trueman Sportsman Award in the Daytona Prototype Class

Posted (02/26/2013) -

Heading into the 2nd Event on the Grand American ROLEX Series schedule at the Circuit of the Americas, Team Sahlen’s Wayne Nonnamaker leads the prestigious Jim Trueman Award for the Daytona Prototype Class.  This lead in the standings is a result of a fine drive by Wayne at the ROLEX 24 Hours at Daytona.  At this event, Wayne drove a significant portion of the race to assist in  9th place finish.  Up until 7 hours to go in the race, the #42 BMW Powered DP was in fine contention for a great finish, being only 1 lap down to the leader.  Then an unfortunate issue with an input shaft put the team into a position of survival to the end of the twice around the clock event.  Wayne’s journey towards the Jim Trueman award has historic significance, as this would mark the 1st time that a driver would have won both the Bob Akin GT class and the Jim Trueman DP class Awards for the Top Sportsman.

“It is quite exciting to be leading this Award already in the 2nd race of the season.  With Jim Trueman being from my home state here of Ohio, it is a unique situation to be able to be pursuing this championship.  It is a long season with 11 races still to go in the year.  But we are off to a good start, and hopefully we can continue this trend throughout the year.” – shared Wayne Nonnamaker

Added Wayne’s teammate Dane Cameron, “COTA looks like a very tough circuit and I think that the Rolex series is going to put on a great show for the fans. I am really excited to start off the sprint races with Wayne, the goal is to pick up where we left off at Daytona and to continue developing every aspect of the car, team, and drivers as we settle in to DP.”

Additionally, Team Sahlen will be entering the #43 BMW Powered Daytona Prototype.  The driver lineup for this event will be the unique situation of 3 Sportsman Drivers of Joe Sahlen, Joe Nonnamaker & Will Nonnamaker.

“We are excited to be coming to this brand new track of the Circuit of the Americas.  I watched the Formula One race last year, and the track was certainly impressive.  I am looking forward to this next round of the 2013 season.  I think that the #43 will surprise some people with our pace and finishing position this year.”  - shared Will Nonnamaker

The ROLEX event at the Circuit Of The Americas in Austin, Texas will be on March 2nd.  The race will be televised live on SPEEDTV at 3 pm est.
