< Back to News Home Western New York Flash finish road trip unbeaten

Posted (06/18/2012) -

The Western New York Flash of the WPSL Elite League (WPSL Elite) league completed their difficult road trip this weekend with a win and a draw after back to back games. The Flash defeated the ASA Chesapeake Charge 2-0 in a Saturday matinee match, and drew the Philadelphia Fever 0-0 Sunday evening.

The Flash were coming off of two wins against the New England Mutiny and the Chicago Red Stars at home, played on Saturday the 9th and Wednesday the 13th. The Flash are currently unbeaten in the last 4 matches, of which they have played in the last 8 days.

The Flash created numerous chances in their first road match against the Charge in the heat of the day. They were finally rewarded in the 42nd minute when Omolyn Davis drove a ball across the box. Rookie Katy Frierson drew a defender to the near post, and Spanish International Adriana calmly placed the ball in the net. The Flash continued to dominate possession into the second half, but did not strike again until the 88th minute when the Charge were penalized for a hand ball in the box. Adriana once again stepped up to slide the ball past the keeper in a excellent penalty shot.

A mere 27 hours after their game against the Charge, the Flash kicked off against the Philadelphia Fever. Once again, the Flash dominated possession from the first whistle but could not convert any of their opportunities. The Flash's best chances came through striker Laura Heyboer in the first half. Tori Huster sent a great ball in from the right side and Heyboer was able to get on the end of it but unfortunately the goal was called back. The Flash had a total of three goals that were called back; two by Heyboer and one by Adriana. McCall Zerboni also had several opportunities including one shot that missed the post by inches, and Davis also had a good chance off of Alex Sahlen's left footed cross that was headed just over the net. Late into the first half, central defender Katherine Reynolds Dribbled into the space uncontested and rocketed a shot from just outside of the box that missed by a foot.

The Flash continued to press into the second half with Zerboni, Adriana, and Frierson all taking several shots but were unable to find the back of the net. Late in the second half, the Flash had their best opportunity when Zerboni played Sahlen in behind, who crossed it and the ball popped out to Adriana who just missed wide of the goal.

The Flash will have a rematch with the Fever on Friday evening at Sahlen's Stadium at 7:30 PM. For tickets or for more information, please call 716-655-7529 or visit our website www.wnyflash.com. Don't forget to "like" us on facebook and follow us on twitter @wnyflash!
