Posted (10/03/2011) -

Team Sahlen secured one of the highly coveted Top 10 spots in the 2011 Grand American GT class Team Championship.  With a total of 290 points, Team Sahlen’s #42 secured 8th place in the final standings.

“The crew worked hard all year to secure a Top 10 in the GT Team Points.  Even though we had a good year, there were a lot full time teams that did not make it into the top 10.  Look, Stevenson won 2 races and secured 10th, and Whelen had a great year with their victory at Road America, so our 8th place was really a hard fought endeavor.” Shared Jay Chapman – Team Manager

The highlights to Team Sahlen’s season included securing 2 Pole Positions, 2 Fastest Race Laps and 2 second place finishes.  All of the team’s accomplishments occurred in the 2nd half of the 12 race season.

“At the mid point in season, we had a big Team meeting with the crew.  We shared that our goal was to win the 2nd have of the season.  And if you look at the points earned from race 6 through 12, we were able to score the 2nd most points.  I am real proud of the crew for not giving up early in the season, and for their fortitude in believing we could rise to the challenge.” shared Wayne Nonnamaker

The Team Sahlen #43 finished in 13th place in the Team Championship.  The Mazda, driven all year by Joe Nonnamaker, ran in all 12 events during the season.   The #49 Mazda of Team Sahlen entered 8 events and placed 16th in the GT points.

“With the 8th place in points comes some really nice perks in 2012 via being including in the Continental Pacesetters program.  We appreciated this program that Grand American and Continental Tires has put together and look forward to being a part of it in 2012.” – shared Joe Nonnamaker
