< Back to News Home Team Sahlen's learns a lot at the new Thunderbolt Raceway

Posted (09/06/2008) -

Team Sahlen headed to the new New Jersey Thunderbolt Raceway with several developmental pieces to try out.  Throughout the weekend, the Team Sahlen Corvettes ran reliably, allowing all items to be tried out.

"Test Day was cut a bit short, with Scott Pruett's wreck on the front straightaway.  Thankfully, Scott was ok after the wreck.  We continued on testing our new pieces during practice and learned a lot."  - stated Joe Nonnamaker

At the very start of the race, starters Joe & Will Nonnamaker luckily survived a spinning Daytona Prototype.  Unfortunetely, many GT class cars did not, including the GT Corvette driven by John Heinricy.

As the race progressed, the difficult aspect of the new track being dusty causes problems to the Team Sahlen Corvettes.  Oil and Dust on the windshield forced Will off track several times.  In the end, dust and heat forced the retirement of both Corvettes.

"The good news is that we survived this weekend, and have the #42 & #43 intact for the season finale.  The crew will only have 8 days at home to prepare for this 7 hour + event." - states Wayne Nonnamaker
