Team Sahlen driver Will Nonnamaker keeps in shape for on track racing by training on his road race bicycle, a Cannondale Six13.  To challenge himself during his training, Will committed to enter a local bike race series to push himself.  Will entered the local Race at the Lake held at the Monroe Falls Park under the Team Sahlen banner.  He even showed off his team colors by wearing his Team Sahlen Bicycle Jersey.  The 4 part race series was put on by the Summit FreeWheelers Bicycle Club of Summit County, Ohio.  The circuit would be 10 laps of a 1.2 mile course on the rolling roads of the park. 

Not being a regular bicycle racer, Will was entered in the Category 5 / Citizen race.  As a background, Bicycle races are divided up into Categories.  With Cat 1 being the highest level, and corresponding classes all the way to Cat 5.  Additionally there are classes for Master's/ Over 45, Women, Juniors and Citizens.

On the first week of the series, Will entered with hope of learning the ropes of bike racing, and getting a feeling for what to expect.

"You think that you are in really great shape, and then you show up here and learn what real tempo riding is about.  I held on for 4 of the laps, and then just bonked.  As I completed lap 9, the leaders past me, so I didn't even get to lap 10." - states Will Nonnamaker

Will missed the next two weeks of races due to work and racing in the ROLEX series with Team Sahlen, but he was back for the final Week 4 race.

"I came back for the final event with a lot of experience from the first event.  My goals for this race were to lead a lap, and to not get lapped by the leaders.  On lap 4 I accomplished the goal of leading a lap, by shooting off the front for a quick pass across the line in front of the pack.
