Sahlen & Nonnamaker finish 20th at UTAH ST race

Posted (09/24/2007) - Joe Sahlen and Will Nonnamaker entered the Miller Motorsports KONI Challenge Series Street Tuner event with one mission in mind: Use the valuable track time to learn the Mazda RX-8, so they would be prepared for the 2008 Season. The duo entered both the Promoter's Test Day as well as the Race weekend. "The Mazda is a lot of fun to drive. It reminds me a lot of the Acura Type Rs we used to race, just with wheels being powered in the back. SpeedSource has proven to build and maintain excellent race cars. Their knowledge of the Rotary engine in the RX-7s and RX-8s is well proven." - states Will Nonnamaker Joe and Will treated the race like a test session. The duo traded off driving during the race, to ensure both received plenty of track time. The strategy may have cost a few positions, but the focus was on the long term. In the end, the #70 Mazda finished in 20th place in ST out of 29 entries. "Adapting to the SpeedSource Mazda from our GT class HRPWorld.com Corvettes was very easy. Both handle very similarly. I am excited about the 2008 season in ST. It should be a fun one." - states Joe Sahlen To further prepare for the 2008 KONI Challenge ST season, Team Sahlen will campaign the SpeedSource Mazda RX-8 at the season 6 finale at Virginia International Raceway on October 6th.
