< Back to News Home Team Sahlen has a mixed day at Daytona

Posted (07/07/2007) - The Brumos 250 at Daytona International Speedway was a one day event; starting in the morning and cumulating at the 10 pm finish of the race. But for the Team Sahlen crew, it seemed more like a whole weekend. Two practice sessions, a qualifying session and the race,,,as well as a mid day rain downpour made for a hectic day.

Practice and Qualifying were busy as the crew sorted through a mixed assortment of mechanical issues.

Starting the race in 15th position, Joe Sahlen quickly drove the #42 machine up to 9th place in GT. Joe maintained that position until lap 27. Then Joe had to go off course to avoid a spinning competitor in front of him in the back straight chicane. Joe continued on, struggling with flat spotted tires. Finally on lap 35, Joe pitted and handed the HRPWorld.com Corvette over to Will Nonnamaker

"Joe drove a fantastic start to the race. The early yellow came just right as we were able to catch back up and get our mandatory pit stop before the 45 minute mark." - stated Will Nonnamaker

Will continued forward with the #42 HRPWorld.com Corvette and made progress back up the GT field. Then an unfortunate Motor Gremlin put him out with only 8 laps to go.

The #43 HRPWorld.com Corvette was started by Joe Nonnamaker. Joe started last due to a mechanical issue in qualifying. Joe took the opportunity to pit early before the yellow flag came out. This would have been perfect strategy, except for an overheating issue that forced him into the pits for an extended stay.

"The initial problem was a bit of bad luck, as the #43 racer ran fine the rest of the race. In the end, we finished the race, and Dad picked up some valuable Bob Akin points." - stated Wayne Nonnamaker

In the final results, #42 finished in 17th place and #43 finished in 18th place.

The next event for Team Sahlen will the ROLEX GT race at Iowa Speedway on July 14th. The ROLEX GT race will be televised Live on SPEED TV at 3 pm on July 14th.

The 2007 Team Sahlen ROLEX GT Campaign is support by HRPWorld.com, GOJO, ZIP Products, Kempthorn Auto Mall, HAWK Performance, Forgeline Wheels, Cool Shirt, TheRaceSite.com, TheRaceMarket.com, Grassroots Motorsports, HOTSEAT, Holliday Canopies, Alcon, CM Racing, Joe Gibbs Motor Oil, Genesis Technologies, Endurance Karting, Racetech Seats, and Corsa Performance.
