Team Sahlen Dodge races at new Iowa Speedway this weekend

Posted (04/19/2007) - Team Sahlen will make the 10 hour trek west this weekend to compete in the 3rd round of the 2007 Koni Challenge Series at the brand new Iowa Speedway. Iowa Speedway was designed and built by NASCAR champion and legend Rusty Wallace. This race will be the first professional event on the road course version at Iowa Speedway. Driving Team Sahlen's #03 HRPWorld.com Dodge SRT-4 will be Joe Sahlen and Will Nonnamaker. The Dodge competes in the Street Tuner class of the Koni Challenge Series. Last year the duo captured 7th place at the Trios Rivieres event. This is the highest place finish for a Dodge in Koni Challenge Series history. "Surprisingly, this little Dodge seems to like the tight confines of small twisty race tracks. Joe is getting very comfortable with the front wheel drive configuration. His 9th fastest race lap at the Daytona season opener is evidence to that. If we have a good clean race, I see no reason why we can't surprise a few people with a top 5 finish." - states Will Nonnamaker The duo also hopes to get some valuable seat time before the July ROLEX event when Team Sahlen returns with their GT class HRPWorld.com Chevrolet Corvettes. "Getting track time at a brand new circuit like Iowa now should really pay dividends when we return here in July with the Corvettes. The race cars are dramatically different, but the track still turns the same way no matter which car you drive." - states Joe Sahlen. Iowa will mark the 2nd event in 2007 for Team Sahlen's HRPWorld.com Dodge SR-4. Previously the team ran #03 at the Daytona season opener. The Dodge was strong in practice, setting 7th fastest time in practice session 1. Bad luck in the warm up meant the team did not get the car repaired in time for the race, forcing the car out a 1/2 hour late into the race. Despite this bad luck, Joe Sahlen persevered with some excellent lap times down the stretch.
