Team Sahlen at Daytona Koni Challenge Event

Posted (02/11/2007) - Team Sahlen's ran their Dodge SRT-4 and their two Porsche 996s during the Koni Challenge Race and finished with some strong performances throughout the three hour event. The team had a solid race and got as high as 11th place in GS during a portion of the event. Racing the Dodge SRT-4 were drivers Joe Sahlen and Will Nonnamaker who were able to record the 9th fastest race lap time. "We thought the Daytona race would be a good event for this Dodge," commented Will Nonnamaker. "We were excited about our chances, but unfortunately we had a turbo line fail at the start of the race. We still had a good run though and the car turned the ninth fastest lap which showed the promise of the Team Sahlen SRT-4." Driving in one of the Porsche 996s were Wayne Nonnamaker and Mike Canney. Even though it was his first race, Canney did an excellent job on the track and had a very impressive first showing. "Mike did an excellent job adapting to our Porsches," commented Wayne Nonnamaker. "He is accustomed to a tube frame style front engine car and this was a definite difference for him. We had a small electrical problem during the race but Mike got some valuable track time which will allow him to develop his confidence in our Team Sahlen Porsches." Behind the wheel of Team Sahlen's second Porsche were Joe Masessa and Ernie Becker. Despite a wreck during practice earlier that weekend, the car was able to rebound to have a very strong run in the race. "The crew really pitched in to get the car back together," commented Joe Nonnamaker. "The car was wrecked just several hours before qualifying. The team did an excellent job identifying the parts that had to be changed and getting the car back on track. The car ran perfect during the race and was threatening to break into the top ten." With great lap times, good first impressions and the ability to react to adversity, Team Sahlen's continues to show that they are ready to compete and challenge the competition.
