< Back to News Home Team Sahlen captures Highest SRT-4 Finish in Grand-Am Cup History at Trois Rivieres

Posted (08/08/2006) - The Team Sahlen Dodge SRT-4 took a 7th place finish at the Grand Prix of Trois Rivieres this past weekend. This marks the highest finishing position ever for a Dodge SRT-4 in both the Grand-Am Cup and SPEED World Challenge Touring Class. The Team Sahlen Dodge competed in Saturday's Street Tuner class race on the street course of Trois Rivieres, Quebec. Driver Will Nonnamaker commented on the team's hard work leading up to the exciting race.

"The crew has been working hard to develop the SRT-4 ever since we received the car last summer. We tested the Dodge four separate times before we ran it in 2006. A glimpse of that effort was evident at Mid-Ohio where the Team Sahlen Dodge qualified in 3rd place. Trois Rivieres was the accumulation of all the work, with a solid 7th place finish in a strong thirty-car, ST class field. This is the highest place finish by any SRT-4 in either Grand-Am Cup or the SPEED World Challenge Touring Class," stated Nonnamaker.

Joe Sahlen led the early charge in the Team Sahlen #41 Dodge and avoided a major accident during his stint. Changes were made to the car during the first pit stop and Nonnamaker took his place in the driver's seat. Nonnamaker adapted well to the car and after some of his own adjustments quickly began passing competition. Nonnamaker moved the car behind the No. 92 Honda driven by Shane Lewis. This brought out a battle between the Dodge and Honda during the final moments of the race. Will's brother, Wayne, recalled the intense final laps of the Grand Prix of Trois Rivieres.

"Will (Nonnamaker) picked his way through traffic to find himself in an intense battle with the HART Honda driven by Shane Lewis. Just as Will was challenging the HART Honda on the last lap, the Honda had a brake failure. Will's Hawk Brake pads held strong allowing him to bring the car home in a strong seventh place finish. After a lot of development and work on the Team Sahlen Dodge SRT-4, it was great to continue our competitive form in the Street Turner class," stated Wayne.

In addition to the 7th place finish Team Sahlen also received the Bernheim Improve Your Position Award. This award is given to the team that improves the most from their starting position to their finishing position in any given Grand-Am Cup race. The Team Sahlen Dodge SRT-4 moved up 16 positions to finish the race in a top-ten spot.

The Team Sahlen Street Tuner Class Dodge SRT-4 will compete in their next Grand-Am Cup race at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah on Friday, September 1st. For more up to date race coverage visit TheRaceSite.com.
