< Back to News Home Team Sahlen Adds Bob Frost to the Driver Line-Up in Grand Am

Posted (07/03/2006) - The latest newcomer in the Team Sahlen paddock is fellow buckeye, Bob Frost. From Beavercreek, Ohio, Frost joined the team on June 6, 2006 for the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series "Sahlen Six Hours of The Glen", at Watkins Glen, New York. Frost co-drove with Joe Sahlen and Jim Michaelian in the unmistakable #41 Porsche GT3. The team finished a respectable 13th place in GT and was credited as one of few cars that finished the race without incident or any damage.

Frost returned on June 25, 2006 and took the wheel in the #40 Porsche 996 along with co-driver Tanner Baker in the Grand American Cup, "EMCO Gears Classic", at Mid-Ohio. When asked for his impressions of Team Sahlen and reflections of his first two pro races in Grand Am he had this to say;

"First I must admit I was taken by surprise when Will Nonnemaker called and invited me to co-drive with Joe Sahlen and Jim Michaelian at Sahlen Six Hours of The Glen. This is something I have dreamed of doing and I greatly appreciate the opportunity that Will gave me to experience the race from behind the wheel. Even though the conditions were treacherous with all of the rain I still had a great time and would not have wanted to miss the experience for anything. It's funny because there were a number of things thrown my way that required me to work pretty much outside my comfort zone. Also, this meant a lot of firsts for me including; my first Rolex race, first time driving the Porsche GT3, first time in an endurance race, first time pitting with driver changes, first time at Watkins Glen, first time looking in the mirror and seeing a throng of Daytona Prototypes barreling down on me, and first time driving in rain conditions for a long period of time. Oh, and I need to mention the car had to come back in one piece for a photo shoot taking place at the end of the race. For the fact that Joe Sahlen was the sponsor of the event and Master of Ceremonies I could not just play an obscure role in this race. We were all pretty much front and center and I didn't want to disappoint anyone or do something stupid on the track. In the end I felt up to the challenge and as a team we did a very respectable job. I believe I minded my P's and Q's and I'm happy that Will showed confidence in me that I would properly represent the team. I am going to tuck this experience away and hopefully be able to draw on the lessons I learned for maybe a seat in the 24 Hours of Daytona next year."

"The EMCO Gears Classic at Mid-Ohio was a blast. This was my first Grand Am Cup race and first time behind the wheel of the Porsche 996 cup car. With approximately 80 cars on the track meant for a very busy race and recipe for mishaps. We had a few setbacks during the race that cost us two laps including third gear malfunction but we managed to bring the car across the finish line. My co-driver, Tanner Baker, did a fantastic job and I had a lot of fun with him. I am looking forward to driving with Tanner again."

"My impressions of Team Sahlen starts with respecting what the Nonnemaker's have established and that they have stood the test of time for over 17-years in racing. Not many teams can claim that so they must be doing many things correctly. They run a very professional organization, they do a great job promoting, they accommodate sponsors and guests and make them feel welcome, they have great hospitality and food, everyone knows their job, there's little drama, and most importantly everyone has a good time. After all if you can't have a good time in racing you should find something else to do."

"My thoughts concerning the Grand Am experience have thus far exceeded my expectations. I believe Grand Am does as much as possible to be fair and impartial to the teams and drivers. I also think that Grand Am is doing a great job on making the series driver and fan friendly. I am a people person and I greatly enjoy<
