< Back to News Home Team Sahlen Takes 6th Place Finish in GS

Posted (06/29/2006) - With eleven drivers and five cars, Team Sahlen headed to the Mid Ohio Sports Car Course for the Grand-Am Cup race held this past Sunday. Poor weather struck the track after Thursday's testing session and caused damage through the Team Sahlen paddock. The team quickly recuperated and went strong into Friday's testing sessions and Saturday's qualifying.

Leading the way in the Team Sahlen No. 44 car was Joe and Wayne Nonnamaker who took 8th place in the qualifying race. The Nonnamaker duo had an excellent set up for the weekend which paid off during practice sessions. Joe started off the race for the No. 44 car with Wayne coming in at the driver change. Wayne was able to bring the car up as high as third place until being struck by another Grand Sport car.

"We were doing very well and running the car up to 3rd place. It was very exciting and then we were hit and spun. It was all pretty frustrating especially because we weren't able to get back up in position. We are however happy with our 6th place finish in the GS class," stated Wayne Nonnamaker.

In the Team Sahlen No. 40 car was Tanner Baker and Bob Frost. The duo gave strong efforts during practice sessions and Will Nonnamaker commented on their success.

"The No. 40 Team Sahlen Porsche sponsored by Michael Baker Racing ran a very clean race to 25th in GS out of 50 cars. This was Bob Frost and Tanner Baker's 1st Grand-Am Cup race. Previously, Bob Frost had run with Team Sahlen at the Sahlen's Six Hour Rolex race and finished 13th in the Grand Touring class," stated Will Nonnamaker.

The Team Sahlen No. 42 also saw new drivers for Team Sahlen and the Grand-Am Cup. Robert Brent, Robb Brent, and Aaron Bambach joined the Grand Sport class for the first time and the trio put up some excellent lap times throughout the weekend.

"The No. 42 car had three drivers, who were all in their first Grand-am Cup race. The drivers ran a trouble free race and the crew did a great job on the pit stops. The net result was a very fine 24th place out of 50," stated Will Nonnamaker.

Will Nonnamaker and Joe Sahlen co-drove the Team Sahlen No. 43 car during the Mid Ohio event. Nonnamaker and Sahlen also did well during practice sessions but problems with their car left them sidelined during the race.

"The No. 43 Team Sahlen Porsche continued it's run of bad luck. Several problems were encountered by both Joe and I, with an ultimate crack bell housing ending our day," concluded Will Nonnamaker.
