< Back to News Home Sahlen's: Everywhere at Watkins Glen

Posted (06/05/2006) - The Sahlen's name was everywhere during this weekend's Grand American Rolex race at Watkins Glen International. As the title sponsor of the Sahlen's Six Hours at the Glen, Sahlen's was everywhere and even involved in the race action. The Team Sahlen No. 41 Porsche took to the track during the weekend festivities in Watkins Glen, New York. Joe Sahlen, Jim Michaelian, and Bob Frost co-drove during the six hour event behind the wheel of the red, black, and yellow Porsche.

Rain made the already challenging Watkins Glen track even more difficult through the race weekend. Patches of rain during practices and the race made it difficult for drivers particularly through the infamous "Bus Stop" at the Glen. Team Sahlen was able to avoid contact on the track bringing the Grand Touring (GT) class cars home with no damage and took 13th place in the GT class for the event.

"All drivers ran a very clean and smart race. They stayed out of the way of the Daytona Prototype's and didn't get into trouble in very challenging conditions. This type of weather is the hardest to drive in. When it downpours it is easier than this misty, drying track. Grip around the track is inconsistent from turn to turn and lap to lap. The drivers did an excellent job to not put a scratch on the car. It was great to have a Team Sahlen represented so well in the Sahlen's Six Hours," stated Team Sahlen owner, Wayne Nonnamaker.

Team Sahlen supporters were another big presence during the Sahlen's Six Hour weekend. Employees and friends from the Buffalo, New York based Sahlen Packing Co. cheered on the team and Sahlen's owner Joe Sahlen. Sahlen, whose first Watkins Glen Rolex race was this past weekend, also drives for the team's Grand-Am Cup Grand Sport effort. Joe's Grand-Am Cup co-driver Will Nonnamaker was unable to attend the race but commented on Joe's driving for the weekend.

"The team told me that Joe did a great job and there was a lot of pressure at this race with all those Team Sahlen fans at the track!" Nonnamaker stated.

Team Sahlen competes in the Sahlen's Six Hours with support from HRPWorld.com, GOJO, TheRaceSite.com, TheRaceMarket.com, Kempthorn Auto Mall, Racetech, and Grassroots Motorsports.
