< Back to News Home Team Sahlen Takes on Heat and Both Grand-Am Cup Races at Phoenix

Posted (05/12/2006) - Phoenix International Raceway is playing host to the Avondale Mazda Twin 200's, this weekend's Grand-Am Cup race. Team Sahlen will be in both Grand-Am Cup races set to take place on Saturday, May 13th. The Grand Sport (GS) class will start the day off for Grand American Road Racing. The GS class race begins at 1:00 PM MST and the Street Tuner (ST) class will round out the day for the Grand-Am Cup with the race beginning at 3:45 PM MST.

Joe Sahlen and Will Nonnamaker will be taking on both races for Team Sahlen. In the GS class Nonnamaker and Sahlen will take their seat behind the wheel of the Team Sahlen No. 43 Porsche. In the ST class Sahlen and Nonnamaker will co-drive the Ted's Hot Dogs Dodge SRT-4. Nonnamaker is ready to take on the races and both Grand-Am Cup classes.

"We have had some very successful races as far as the development of our cars go. The race at Phoenix will be great for our team and we know that we can do very well here. We also have some great local support from Ted's Hot Dogs," states Nonnamaker.

Nonnamaker's father and younger brother will be in the Team Sahlen No. 44 Porsche for the GS class race at Phoenix. Joe and Wayne Nonnamaker are looking forward to the race despite weather prediction for triple digit temperatures.

"Part of the challenge of this race is the extreme heat in Arizona. You need to stay hydrated and make sure you are taking in plenty of fluid. The heat, not just the racing, is enough to wear you out entirely. We are looking forward to being at PIR and putting on a great show for the Phoenix area fans," stated Joe Nonnamaker.
