Posted (05/10/2006) - Team Sahlen took a top-ten in the Grand-Am Cup race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this past Saturday. Tomy Drissi led the way during his stint in the Team Sahlen Porsche. The No. 42 Porsche took 10th at the Grand-Am Cup 200 and was the first of the Team Sahlen Porsches to finish.

In the Team Sahlen No. 44 Porsche , team patriarch Joe Nonnamaker, shared a seat in the No. 44 Porsche with son Wayne. The Nonnamakers faired well in the Grand-Am Cup 200 as they took 15th place to finish the race.

In the third Team Sahlen car Joe Sahlen was able to move the No. 43 Team Sahlen Porsche as far as 2nd place. He and partner Will Nonnamaker drove a very successful race but finished in 17th place. The duo held onto their second place standing for several laps until yellow flags interfered with the team's pit strategy.

Cautions, which have frequented the most recent Grand-Am Cup races, kept Team Sahlen from another top-ten at Laguna Seca. The Saturday afternoon race was flooded with yellow flags and eventually caused problems for both the Team Sahlen No. 43 Porsche and the No. 44 Porsche. Team owner and driver Will Nonnamaker shared his thoughts on the team's Laguna strategy.

"We would have been in great shape had the race continued to be run under green flags. Because the race went yellow, other teams that were going to need a second fuel stop were able to make it to the end. If it stayed green we would have been good to the end. The race strategy did not work out for us this Saturday but we are excited to head to Phoenix next weekend. Saturday will be a long day for us because we will be running three separate races," stated Nonnamaker.

Phoenix is the second of two back to back race weekends for the Grand-Am Cup and Team Sahlen. The race will be held at Phoenix International Raceway. Three races Grand American sanctioned races will be held at the track on Saturday and Team Sahlen cars will be entered in all of them. Will Nonnamaker added his thoughts on the Phoenix races.

"We have a long weekend ahead of us. It is going to be three races in one day. We do have some down time between races which is good for our crew to rest up for the next competition. We are really looking forward to the challenge," states Nonnamaker.

Speed will air coverage of the Laguna Seca Grand-Am Cup race on Saturday, May 13th at 1:00PM EST and Monday, May 15th at 12:00 PM EST.

Team Sahlen competes in the 2006 Grand-Am Cup season with support from HRPWorld.com, GOJO, Kempthorn AutoMall, TheRaceSite.com, TheRaceMarket.com, Grassroots Motorsports, and Racetech Seats.
