Posted (11/21/2005) - North Canton, Ohio - Team Sahlen had an exciting season in 2005 and closed out the year with a 7th place in the Grand-Am Cup team championship. With an amazing command of their Grand-Am Cup Grand Sport Porsche 996's the team brought in drivers from across the country and challenged themselves to strengthen the competitive edge of this Green, Ohio based team. While faced with a variety of challenges and an increasing competitor list in the Grand-Am Cup, Team Sahlen persisted and will remember this season both for its successes as well as its obstacles.

"This year has been incredible for us, from announcing our partnership with Sahlen's early on in the season to the podium at Mid Ohio to an amazing effort by our crew at VIR. Our driver list and crew members have been fantastic. Sahlen's, of course, has been wonderful this season. They provide us with so much support and we all enjoy their excellent hot dogs. The Grand-Am Cup has grown immensely and we are very happy to work with such an incredible organization," stated Will Nonnamaker.

"This hasn't been the best year to be in a Porsche, but we led more laps than any other Porsche team," commented Wayne Nonnamaker. "We had some bad luck this season, but we really came on strong at the end. We had three finishes in the top six and would have had two more had we not been unceremoniously punted out of two races. The crew did a great job further developing these 996's beyond what any of us could imagine."

Team Sahlen's Grand-Am Cup effort began the season with a total of five Porsche 966 type 911 cars in the Grand Sport class. Mid-season the team expanded its effort to the Sport Touring class with a newly acquired Dodge SRT. Shortly thereafter the team took its first podium of the season at their home track, Mid-Ohio. The team totaled for 43 entries in the Grand-Am Cup.

"This truly has been a season we as a team will never forget. Every year you take the good and the bad and you still come back and do it again the next year. With four straight Driver and Team Championships in the Grand Am Cup our team has experienced its fair share of success, and there are many complexities and challenges involved with this sport. We are happy with our efforts this season and are really looking forward to 2006 and gunning for the top step of the podium," stated Wayne Nonnamaker.

Team Sahlen competes in the Grand-Am Cup with support from Speed Group International, GOJO, HRPWorld.com, TheRaceSite.com, Hawk Performance, TheRaceMarket.com, Kempthorn Auto Mall, UNICHIP, Lamin-X, Racetech, and Grassroots Motorsports.
