< Back to News Home Team Sahlen Leaves Phoenix with Top Ten in Grand American Rolex Race

Posted (09/12/2005) - With temperatures reaching triple digits throughout the weekend, Team Sahlen brought home a top-ten finish from Friday evening's race at Phoenix International Raceway. The Phoenix 250 was a split race. The Grand Touring class started off the weekend for the Grand American Rolex series on Friday night, and the Daytona Prototypes closed out the weekend in a Saturday night race.

Tomy Drissi, a Hollywood, California native, joined the team for the weekend. Drissi is a long time Trans-Am competitor who was a crowd favorite in Phoenix. This was Drissi's second appearance with Team Sahlen, his first being the Laguna Seca race in early May.

Excellent driving from Drissi and Nonnamaker and an extremely well produced pit stop during the race contributed to the 9th place finish for Team Sahlen. The race was Nonnamaker's second of the day and one of three for the weekend. He and his co-driver were pleased to earn the top-ten finish in front of the Phoenix crowd.

"We were very pleased to earn another top-ten finish for Team Sahlen and 20th Century Fox. Tomy did an excellent job in our Porsche GT3 Cup car and we were happy to have him join us this weekend," stated Nonnamaker. "We had additional sponsorship on the car this weekend promoting the upcoming movie, Cheaper by the Dozen 2. Remember to go see this movie December 21st."

Nonnamaker holds the current lead in the Bob Akin award as he has all season. The Bob Akin award is given to the driver who has the best finishes and has completed the most laps for the season. Nonnamaker believes that this points chase will continue to make the season exciting for him.

"I am working very hard to achieve this goal for the season. The competition has been closing but I am still working hard to obtain this honor," adds Nonnamaker.

Team Sahlen returned home after the Phoenix race to prepare for their next event, the third and final race at Watkins Glen International for the season. Team Sahlen will be pleased to return to the familiar track and ready to bring home another top-ten. The Crown Royal 250 at the Glen will take place during the track's IRL festivities. SPEED live coverage of the race will begin at Saturday, September 24th at 3:00pm.

Team Sahlen competes in the ROLEX Grand American Series with support from 20th Century Fox, HRPWorld.com, TheRaceSite.com, Rembrandt Charms, TheRaceMarket.com, Kempthorn Auto Mall, UNICHIP, Lamin-X, Racetech, and Grassroots Motorsports.
