< Back to News Home Team Sahlen GT Driver, Will Nonnamaker, to Compete in Three of Four Races During Phoenix 250 Weekend

Posted (09/07/2005) - Massillon, Ohio - Will Nonnamaker is headed for an exhausting weekend at Phoenix International raceway but the Grand American Rolex driver is up for the challenge.

"Several people have thought that I was crazy running in three out of four events at Phoenix but I hope next year I can run all four!" jokes Nonnamaker. Will Nonnamaker will be entering the Phoenix 250 Grand Touring (GT) race having already competed in the Grand-Am Cup ST race on Friday. After competing in the Rolex race he will have one more Grand-Am Cup race to drive in.

"I am really looking forward to a good weekend at Phoenix, the fans are great and so is the track. We are looking to land another top-ten finish," states Nonnamaker.

Nonnamaker and partner, Wes Allen took an 8th place finish during the EMCO Gears Classic Grand American Rolex race at Mid Ohio. It is no surprise that an excellent finish in Phoenix will be on the mind of the long-time Grand American competitor. Much of that is due to his current lead in the charge for the Bob Akin award. The award is given to the Grand Touring competitor who completes the most laps and has the highest finishing position. Marc Bunting is closing in, and Nonnamaker believes that this will only add to the excitement towards the end of the Grand American Rolex season.

"The chase for this award is getting really close. I plan on competing for the rest of the season with this award on my mind. We have had three top-ten finishes in Rolex this year and I have had a lot of track time. I am really concentrating on this win," concludes Nonnamaker.

Nonnamaker will be joined on the track by his father, Joe, and brother, Wayne. Joe and Wayne recently shared a Grand-Am Cup win at the Mid Ohio sports car course but took time off from Rolex competition. They are hoping that their success in the Grand Sport class translates into success in Rolex competition this weekend.

"We felt great running the cars at Mid Ohio. So many things were right with the set up. I think it gave us some time to refocus and come back to the GT class refreshed and ready to run at Phoenix. We are really looking forward to a great race," states Wayne Nonnamaker.

Team Sahlen competes in the ROLEX Grand American Series with support from HRPWorld.com, TheRaceSite.com, Rembrandt Charms, TheRaceMarket.com, Kempthorn Auto Mall, UNICHIP, Lamin-X, Racetech, and Grassroots Motorsports.
