< Back to News Home Team Sahlen Slated to Compete in Both Cup Races At Phoenix with Ted's Hot Dogs Support

Posted (09/07/2005) - Massillon, Ohio - Team Sahlen's Grand-Am Cup effort returned home last Sunday after a podium finish at the EMCO Gears Classic in Lexington, Ohio. The team will now head southwest to Phoenix International Raceway for a series of split races in both Grand-Am Cup and Grand American Rolex Competition. Team Sahlen will be running in both the Grand-Am Cup Grand Sport (GS) race as well as the Grand-Am Cup Sport Touring (ST) race.

Fans of Team Sahlen have noticed the Ted's Hot Dogs/Team Sahlen Dodge SRT hitting the track recently during Grand-Am Cup events. The recent addition of Ted's Hot Dogs to the Team Sahlen stable has enabled the team to enter the car in the ST class.

"We are really fortunate to have Ted's Hot Dogs on board with us especially at PIR. Ted's isn't too far away from the track and the entire team plans on stopping by to sample one of their famous Jumbo Dogs," says Team Sahlen owner and driver, Will Nonnamaker.

Ted's Hot Dogs was founded in 1927 by Theodore Spiro Liaros. As a poor Greek immigrant Ted operated a hot dog cart on Buffalo, New York's west side. He eventually purchased a small stand which evolved into a western New York tradition. Now with eight locations around Buffalo, the Phoenix area is fortunate to have the delicious taste of Ted's Hot Dogs on East Broadway in Tempe. Ted's menu features, in addition to the tasty hot dogs, Polish and Italian sausages, French fries, onion rings and a Colossal Cone for dessert.

Hopefully, Nonnamaker will not fill up on too many hot dogs prior to the Phoenix weekend. He is scheduled to co-drive in three of the four races. Joe Sahlen will be joining Nonnamaker in both the GS and ST races. Sahlen and Nonnamaker have been co-driving for the entire 2005 season with only Phoenix and VIR races remaining. Nonnamaker's third race will have him co-driving the Team Sahlen Porsche GT3 Cup car during the Grand American Rolex Grand Touring race.

"Both Joe (Sahlen) and I are really looking forward to the ST race at Phoenix. We have taken the SRT out several times to get a good feel for it on the track. Our crew has been making adjustments and we are ready to see what it can do in Phoenix. We have made some improvements on the brakes, much thanks to Hawk, and are excited to get the Ted's Hot Dog Dodge SRT out on the track," added Nonnamaker.

Joining Sahlen and Nonnamaker on the track will be Nonnamaker's father, Joe, and brother, Wayne. It was the father-son combination that gave Team Sahlen its first podium finish of the season at Mid Ohio on August 28th. Joe and Wayne are looking forward to another chance at an excellent finish.

"There have been some adjustments to the rules recently that have really leveled the playing field as far as the GS class in concerned. We were able to take off some weight from our cars and consistently run in a top ten position through out the EMCO Gears Classic. The race at Mid Ohio built a lot of confidence in our team and we are hoping to turn that around once again in Phoenix. Having some more track time with the Dodge will definitely help our team gain familiarity with Phoenix International Raceway as a road course," stated Wayne Nonnamaker.
