Posted (08/29/2005) - Lexington, Ohio - On a beautiful day in front of the Mid Ohio fans and 125 of their friends and family members, Team Sahlen took a well deserved podium to finish out the EMCO Gears Classic. The driving duties were shared by the team effort from of the father-son combination of Joe and Wayne Nonnamaker. The Team Sahlen Porsche 996's took their first podium of the 2005 season during Sunday's race.

In the Team Sahlen No. 40 car was Wayne and Joe Nonnamaker. Joe qualified the car in 7th position which allowed him and his son to quickly gain ground on the BMW and Mustangs. Joe Sahlen and Will Nonnamaker shared spots in the No. 43 car.

After thirty minutes of on track battling, Wayne Nonnamaker touted on the radio, "Here we go!" as he passed the No. 10 Mustang in the second hour of the race to be in the fourth spot on the track. After moving to fourth position Wayne then moved quickly to a third place position. Wayne battled it out with the No. 05 car but then clenched third after both he and the No. 05 car passed the No. 28 car, which was running in second place.

"There was some great racing that went on this weekend here at Mid Ohio. We really fought hard for that podium. Dad gaining that 7th position in qualifying was the first step on our way there. Our car worked flawlessly and our crew did an excellent job getting it ready for the race," stated Wayne Nonnamaker.

Co-drivers Joe Sahlen and Will Nonnamaker did not fare quite as well as their teammates. Despite aggressive driving being halted early in the race, Nonnamaker was struck late during his stint which sidelined his car with only one lap to go.

With Mid Ohio being Team Sahlen's home track and with 125 guests sharing in the podium celebration, the drivers and crew were very content.

"We had a lot of family and friends out here this weekend to support our entire team this weekend. It was great to have them all here and to share with them some of the best road racing out there," stated Will Nonnamaker.

Team Sahlen will now begin preparations for its race at Phoenix International Raceway in less than two weeks. The race at Phoenix will be a split race with the Sport Touring class race beginning at 4:00pm Friday, September 9th and the Grand Sport class race beginning at 4:00 pm on Saturday, September 10th.

Team Sahlen competes in the 2005 Grand-Am Cup series with support from HRPWorld.com, TheRaceSite.com, Hawk Performance, TheRaceMarket.com, Kempthorn Auto Mall, UNICHIP, Lamin-X, Racetech, and Grassroots Motorsports
