Posted (08/24/2005) - Massillon, Ohio - Team Sahlen is prepping cars for this weekend's race at the Mid Ohio Sports Car Course. Festivities for the EMCO Gears Classic will begin on Thursday with a test session for both the Grand-Am Cup and Grand American Rolex Series.

Team Sahlen will be putting two of their Porsche 996's in the Sunday Grand-Am Cup race. Both Porsches will be racing in the Grand Sport (GS) class against fellow sports car racing competitors.

The team tested at the Mid Ohio track earlier this season and familiarity with the track is not of a concern for drivers. Mid Ohio is the team's home course. The team won the Sport Touring race there in 2003 and a Rolex race there in 2004 but a Grand Sport class win has eluded the team at their home track.

Joe Sahlen and Will Nonnamaker will be joining forces in the Team Sahlen No. 43 car. Nonnamaker took the Grand Sport pole position in the 2003 edition of the Mid Ohio race. In 2003 the Grand Sport and Sport Touring races were separate and Nonnamaker also took home the win in the 2003 Sport Touring race. Nonnamaker feels this is a great course to take on.

"Mid-Ohio is a truly classic road course with high speed sweepers, transitional curves and low speed turns. A driver who can go fast here is an all around driver. I know that when I put in a fast lap at Mid-Ohio, I feel like I am in the zone," states Nonnamaker.

Besides the excitement of the race Team Sahlen is happy to have tons of family and local support during the race.

"What is really fun about this race is having our family and friends here to watch. Getting a chance to give all of them a great race is great. We also have several local sponsors such as Kempthorn Motors, GOJO, and Hawk that come out to support us this weekend. We enjoy having them here to watch the race and create really great weekend for everyone," states Wayne Nonnamaker who will be joined by his father, Joe, in the Team Sahlen No. 40 Porsche.

Team Sahlen competes in the 2005 Grand-Am Cup series with support from HRPWorld.com, TheRaceSite.com, Hawk Performance, TheRaceMarket.com, Kempthorn Auto Mall, UNICHIP, Lamin-X, Racetech, and Grassroots Motorsports

The race will begin on Sunday at 1:00 pm at the Mid Ohio Sports Car Course. For event coverage, visit www.TheRaceSite.com. For ticket information, log onto www.MidOhio.com. Coverage of the race will be broadcasted on SPEED Saturday, September 17th at noon (EST).
