< Back to News Home Team Sahlen Spends Weekend at Watkins Glen With NASCAR

Posted (08/17/2005) - Team Sahlen and the rest of the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series spent Friday night at Watkins Glen International. The team fought hard against Daytona Prototypes and the rest of the Grand Touring (GT) class in hopes of a top ten finish.

"Having an opportunity to race at Watkins Glen with all of the NASCAR fans is a truly great experience. We love giving that exposure to our team and sponsors for big weekends like this," stated Joe Nonnamaker.

Driving the Team Sahlen No. 41 and No. 43 cars were Joe, Wayne, and Will Nonnamaker. The family trio has fought hard and remained competitive in the GT class this season.

Will Nonnamaker took a significant hit which broke a fuel line and took him out of the race. Nonnamaker got out of the car quickly and was unharmed in the incident. His car did face severe damage.

"It was a difficult situation but I am happy to see that all people involved were out ok," stated Nonnamaker. "We have significant damage to our car including the right front suspension and all four wheels. We had a strong run going but I guess that is racing."

As for younger brother Wayne, his woes included some electronic issues with the Porsche.

"We were having some unfortunate issues with the electronics package of the Porsche," commented Wayne. "We made some movment in finding the problem in the race and have some direction to go hunting for a solution in between these races. It was unfortunate what happened to Will. He got hit at a very fast part of the track. We are actually lucky there isn't more damage to the car."

Team Sahlen will now prepare for their next race at their home track of Mid-Ohio. The track located in Lexington, Ohio is just a short trip from the team's shop in Massillon, Ohio. The Nonnamaker family and the Team are planning for an excellent event in front of their fans.

"We are all familiar with this course and the team has really grown here. It's a beautiful track and favorite to many drivers in the series. We are really looking forward to racing in front of family and friends," added Wayne Nonnamaker who scored a win in last years Mid-Ohio Grand American Rolex race.

Team Sahlen competes in the ROLEX Grand American Series with support from HRPWorld.com, TheRaceSite.com, Rembrandt Charms, TheRaceMarket.com, Kempthorn Auto Mall, UNICHIP, Lamin-X, Racetech, and Grassroots Motorsports.
