Posted (04/27/2005) - Salinas, CA - A new twist on an old favorite will make its debut during the Grand American ROLEX race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this weekend. Team Sahlen has been making adjustments to their Porsche GT3 Cup car for several months and is now ready for its official unveiling.

Designs for the Grand Touring (GT) class car were developed by the Nonnamaker family, owners of Team Sahlen. Adjustments include a new design on the splitter, bumper, and fenders. The cars were widened significantly in the rear quarter panel and the team hopes the engineering will makes gains towards better handling and quicker lap times.

The bumper and fenders were widened to create better grounding for the car. A more effective splitter was added to help with the cooling problems that have been plaguing Porsche teams since the season opener at Daytona.

"Going to this design was a big change for us but we are willing to see where it will take us. Our crew has worked very hard on the development of this car making sure that each piece maintained the integrity of the Porsche. Our team, crew, and partners have done an excellent job in troubleshooting this season and we are very excited about these changes to the car. We are still in the development stages but the overall look of the car cannot go unnoticed," states Will Nonnamaker.

The Nonnamaker family will be driving the car for the first time at this weekend's race at Laguna Seca. Joe, Wayne, and Will Nonnamaker will be sharing time between their Porsche GT3 Cup cars.

Although Team Sahlen hopes their developments will land them their first GT win of the 2005 season, they are giving their competitors the same opportunity. After this weekend Grand American participants will be able to purchase left and right rear quarter panels for the Porsche GT3 Cup, identical to what Team Sahlen has developed. Anyone interested in purchasing these should contact Phoenix Promotions, Inc. account manager, Kelly Dougan, via email at Kelly@phoenixpromotions.com.
