< Back to News Home Team Sahlen Sees Power In California Set Up

Posted (04/06/2005) - Fontana, CA - In what started as a blustery weekend ended with a top-ten finish in the Grand Touring class for Team Sahlen. With winds making conditions unsafe for teams and drivers, race officials cancelled Thursday's testing session.

Only four practices to further prepare setup created a time-crunch for all teams necessary to create a good California Speedway setup. Luckily, Team Sahlen was able to make the most of their time and continually made small changes to the cars while restricted to the garages.

Practices showed a strong Team Sahlen that turned consistent top-ten times. Recent adjustments made to the No. 43 were warranted during those practices and crew chief, Mike Thomas, expressed his views:

"Some of the changes we have recently made are really making a difference and we are showing everyone, drivers included, that we are moving in the right direction. We are trying to get more power out of the cars and its working," stated Thomas.

During the race debris on the track caused several cautions but when the green flag returned Team Sahlen was steadily gaining position on the competition during Sunday's race.

The Nonnamaker family shared time in the Team Sahlen No. 41 and No. 43 cars. Will Nonnamaker spent time in both cars starting for his brother, Wayne, and finishing for his father, Joe.

"We were able to bring the car up to a top five position which is really exciting for us. As always in Grand American the Grand Touring (GT) class is very competitive. We took 9th place which we were very happy about," stated Joe Nonnamaker. "We got caught out on a couple of unlucky yellows and went down a lap to the overall leaders."

Team Sahlen's No. 41 car, piloted by Joe and Will Nonnamaker, received the top-ten finish. The No. 43 car, driven by Wayne and Will, took 11th place.

Team Sahlen will head to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca April 29th-May 1st for their next ROLEX Grand American race.

Team Sahlen's 2005 ROLEX effort is supported by HRPWorld.com, TheRaceSite.com, Hawk Performance, TheRaceMarket.com, Kempthorn Auto Mall, UNICHIP, Lamin-X, RaceTech, and Grassroots Motorsports.
