< Back to News Home Team Sahlen Moves Through Pack For Top Ten Finish

Posted (04/05/2005) - Fontana, CA - It was high winds last Thursday that cancelled test day prior to the California 200 race at California Speedway. Track and weather conditions improved for qualifying and the race itself despite earlier threats of more wind. That alone did not stop Team Sahlen from an exciting race and top-ten finish in Fontana this weekend.

Consistent practices for Team Sahlen created a 15th starting position on the grid for Joe Nonnamaker and the No. 43 car. It was, however, No. 44 that finished out the race with the top ten spot.

After qualifying 32nd, driver Joe Sahlen led the team through the field to place his car in 11th position. Sahlen's partner, Will Nonnamaker, took over in the driver's seat to finish out the 200-mile race. Nonnamaker continued to gain position with the No. 44 car eventually bringing the car to a top ten finish.

This was Sahlen's and Nonnamaker's third race together as partners and their highest finishing position this season. Quick adaptation to the Porsche 996's has been crucial in Sahlen's development on the track. Sahlen drove 42 out of the 71 laps of the race and his co-driver could not be more pleased.

"What an exciting race for our team and especially Joe Sahlen. We could not be happier to have him, in his first season with the team, improving at such an astounding rate," states Will Nonnamaker.

In the No. 43 car were Joe and Wayne Nonnamaker. Joe started off the race and was struck early resulting in an unscheduled pit stop for necessary repairs. While the crew repaired the car very quickly, the several laps spent in the pits meant the car was out of contention for a good finish.

Team Sahlen participates in the Grand-Am Cup with support from HRPWorld.com, TheRaceSite.com, Hawk Performance, TheRaceMarket.com, Kempthorn Auto Mall, UNICHIP, Lamin-X, RaceTech, Grassroots Motorsports, and Zipper Interactive.
