< Back to News Home Miami Race Brings Top Ten Finish for Team Sahlen

Posted (03/08/2005) - Miami, Florida - Team Sahlen finished out the Grand Prix of Miami weekend with a top ten spot and a another solid race early on in the season.

The Grand Touring class No. 43 and No. 41 cars hit Miami's Homestead track this past Saturday ready to put on a great show for the southern Florida crowd.

Driving the No. 43 car was Will and Wayne Nonnamaker. After qualifying 15th, they were in contention for a 4th place finish. Unfortunately, the 250 mile race at the Homestead track was spotted with full course-cautions that totaled for 22 laps. It was one of these yellow flags late in the race which resulted in a 9th place finish for the team.

"We pitted for fuel and two laps later the yellow came out. I am pleased with our team's performance. We had a good run and our team is not resting when we get back home. We have quite a bit of things we are working on and we think California will tell a different story than this weekend," stated Wayne Nonnamaker.

The No. 41 car was driven by Kurt Roehrig and Joe Nonnamaker. In Roehrig's first race with Team Sahlen, an incident with a passing Daytona Prototype pushed him into the marbles. The damage from a brush with the wall knocked the radiator out and thereby left the car unable to claim a top ten finish. Roehrig and Nonnamaker were, however, able to finish the race after quick pit work from the Team Sahlen crew.

"The radiators are the weak points on this car and our crew has worked out the best method to replace them," commented Joe Nonnamaker. "They jumped into action immediately and got the car running by the end of the race. We passed two parked cars in the closing laps which helps out with championship points."

Now back at their shop in Massillon, Ohio Team Sahlen is greatly anticipating their next race at the California Speedway track in early April. This is the same track where they sealed their championship in Grand-Am Cup competition during 2004.

"We are really encouraged by how things went this weekend. We are making some good decisions with the setup going into each race and because of that we are all looking forward to California," states Will Nonnamaker.

Team Sahlen competes in the ROLEX Grand American Grand Sport class with partnerships from Roehrig Engineering, GOJO, HRPWorld.com, HAWK Performance, TheRaceSite.com, NRAuto.com, Grassroots Motorsports Magazine, Alcon, Unichip, LaminX, RaceTech, Racing Optics, Red Line Oil, and Holliday Canopies.
