< Back to News Home Team Sahlen to Stir Up Homestead

Posted (02/28/2005) - Massillon, Ohio - A month after the historic 24 Hour Race at Daytona Team Sahlen prepares for another exciting ROLEX race in the "Sunshine State," the Grand Prix of Miami. Team Sahlen's three car ROLEX effort will be making waves on the Homestead track en route to capturing a podium in the Grand Touring (GT) class.

Kurt Roehrig will, for the first time, be making a race appearance in the red, black and yellow Porsche GT3 cup cars. Roehrig has been an active sports car racing fan and as well as a participant. He joined the team at Daytona test days and spent significant track time behind the wheel of the Grand-Am Cup GS class car.

Roehrig is the owner of Roehrig Engineering a company based out of High Point, North Carolina that prepares dynamometers for numerous racing teams and series. Roehrig Engineering has a very hands on approach with their dynamometer clients and feature a website with tips, points, and forums on how to get the most out of performance vehicles.

Riding along with Roehrig in the Team Sahlen cars will be the Nonnamaker trio, Joe, Wayne, and Will. Roehrig will be Joe's co-driver in No. 41 as Wayne and Will share a driver's seat in the No. 43 car.

Team Sahlen has a strong history at the Miami track. Last year's Grand Prix of Miami race Team Sahlen's Super Grand Sport (SGS) effort, known as Planet Earth Motorsports at the time, took two top ten finishes. Late in the 2004 season at the Miami 250 ROLEX race, Team Sahlen's 2004 effort took a top five finish.

"We had very good races last year at Miami and we have a very strong effort this year. A podium finish is definitely in our grasp but of course we aren't going to take that for granted. Both Will and Wayne posted some excellent times in Daytona and we are very excited to have Kurt with our team. He's a welcome addition both on and off the track. His knowledge of racing has definitely had a positive effect on everyone," stated Joe Nonnamaker.

The race weekend in Miami will only consist of a ROLEX race as opposed to ROLEX and Grand-Am Cup competing at the same location for the weekend. The following week Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic will play host to it's first ever Grand-Am Cup race. Team Sahlen's 5 car Grand Sport (GS) will be heading down for this monumental race and will be the team's first race ever in the Dominican Republic.

Team Sahlen competes in the ROLEX Grand American Grand Sport class with partnerships from Roehrig Engineering, GOJO, HRPWorld.com, HAWK Performance, TheRaceSite.com, NRAuto.com, Grassroots Motorsports Magazine, Jongbloed Wheels, Alcon, Unichip, LaminX, RaceTech, Racing Optics, Red Line Oil, and Holliday Canopies.
