< Back to News Home TheRaceSite.com Leaves Barber with 3 Top-Ten Finishes

Posted (10/12/2004) - Birmingham, Ala. - In one of the most exciting races of the season TheRaceSite.com Racing was able to pull together their most incredible team finish for the season. In a race with forty-seven cars on a tight Barber Motorsports Park course TheRaceSite.com Racing managed a win, a podium, and another top-ten finish.

Craig Stanton and David Murry finished second in qualifying and despite several lead changes were able to take the Grand Sport class win in front of the Barber fans. The slick track caused the No. 43 Porsche to be bumped during the race but fortunately that occurrence did not affect the team's outcome.

Stanton moved closer to the Grand Sport class point leader, Terry Borcheller of Powell Motorsports. Murry commented on the end of the year strategy for him and co-driver Stanton who remains second in point standings.

"Craig closed to within four points of Terry in the championship so we got to have at least one car between us and finish ahead of the (No. 11) Cadillac in California. It's going to be a nail biter to the end like we thought it was going to be all along. Three wins for me, six wins for Craig this year. You can't ask for much more than that," stated Murry.

For Stanton to win the Grand Sport class driver championship he must finish two spots ahead of Borcheller. This places a large challenge in the hands of Stanton, Murry, and the rest of TheRaceSite.com Racing. Stanton and Murry share three wins and a top five for the season. They will arrive in California in a little over two weeks to give Stanton an attempt for the championship.

In the No. 44 Porsche were father-son co-drivers Wayne and Joe Nonnamaker. This was their first time on the podium for Grand-Am Cup competition during the 2004 season. The No. 44 Porsche held the second position spot until lap 86 when they lost an intense battle with the No. 11 Cadillac. The Nonnamakers eventually took third in the Grand Sport class.

"What a race for the team. Two cars with podium finishes and another top ten spot, you really have to take it all in. With Wayne and me taking third it was a great race and I look forward to California. What a season this has turned out to be," commented Joe Nonnamaker.

In the No. 41 Porsche 996 were David Riddle and Kris Wilson. This is the pair's fourth race together and highest finish overall. During the 63rd lap they took the lead and maintained it until the final laps of the race. They finished sixth in the Barber 250 race.

"There were so many position changes during the race and there was a lot of aggressive driving going on from all teams. It truly is amazing that we ended with three cars in top ten spots. It says a lot for our cars and team. Having been on the road since the VIR race it is really a great accomplishment to have this type of race," adds Wayne Nonnamaker.

In addition to the driver championship TheRaceSite.com Racing now holds the one and two spot in team point standings. After the Barber race they edged out current third place team Schuitemaker Motorsports. Wayne and Joe Nonnamaker are now tied with Mike Cronin, Jr. for fourth in driver point standings.
