< Back to News Home TheRaceSite.com #44 Car Finishes Fifth; Craig Stanton Now Leads Drivers in Points

Posted (05/26/2004) - Mont Tremblant, Quebec, May 26, 2004 -- TheRaceSite.com Racing team saw one top five finish and one top ten finish during the Mont-Tremblant 250 race. The #44 TheRaceSite.com Porsche came in fifth and the #43 car finished tenth in the fourth of ten rounds of the Grand Am Cup Series. Drivers Craig Stanton and David Murry competed together in the #44 car for the first time at the Mont-Tremblant race.

Although this was the first time for Stanton and Murry to compete together in the #44 car they are no strangers to each other or Porsches. The two are also paired on the Petersen Porsche in the American Le Mans Series and the AASCO Porsche in the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series.

Stanton, who was previously paired with Terry Borcheller for the first three races, had not lost a Grand Am Cup race this season up until this point. Pairing Murry with Stanton has allowed the team to not skip a beat in their pursuit of the Grand Sport Triple Crown Championship. The duo scored a fifth place finish in the twenty seven car field. Stanton's streak of three straight victories was brought to a halt as a result of the #44 being struck twice during the race.

Another pair of new teammates faced a similar but perhaps more devastating loss in Canada this past weekend. Terry Borcheller and new partner, Devon Powell, were first to cross the finish line, but the Powell Motorsports Cadillac CTS-V was disqualified when it did not meet fuel capacity standards. The Powell Motorsports team and Borcheller will receive 28th place points for the infraction.

"It's great to have the championship to ourselves for sure," commented Stanton. "It's disappointing not to have that fourth win this weekend but to walk out of here with the top spot all to ourselves gives us some breathing room to get this additional weight figured out."

The additional weight that Stanton refers to is the 100 pounds that Grand American added to the Porsche 996 after the team's dominating performance

"The extra weight on the car forced us to really use the car up," added Stanton regarding the weight. "This car is worn-out now. To keep up with our pace we really had to force the issue on every lap. David got spun around a couple of times and we lost our ABS but, other than that we just motored right along. The car was prepped very well by TheRaceSite.com crew. We just didn't have much for our competitors today but we got a top-five finish. The Nonnamakers did a great job."

Craig Stanton now leads the Grand Am Cup Series Grand Sport with 131 points. Second in the points is Borcheller with 108 points. Sitting in a third place tie in the points are Joe and Wayne Nonnamaker, drivers of the #43 TheRaceSite.com Racing Porsche 996.

TheRaceSite.com's title defending campaign in the Grand-Am Cup GS class is a reality due to the amazing support from HRPworld.com, HAWK Performance, Kempthorn Auto Mall, SpeedSource, TheRaceMarket.com, K&N Filters, Infinity2, Bob Bondurant Driving Schools, North Jersey Dermatology Center, Buddy Stubbs' Harley Davidson, Grassroots Motorsports Magazine and 9 Magazine.
