< Back to News Home David Murry to Co-Drive with Craig Stanton in the Championship Leading #44 TheRaceSite.com Racing Porsche

Posted (04/23/2004) - North Canton, OH -- David Murry, a three time Professional Champion, will co-drive with Craig Stanton in the Championship leading #44 TheRaceSite.com Racing Porsche 996 for the balance of the Grand Am Cup season. Stanton has won all three races of the season so far and is tied for the lead in the points with Terry Borcheller at a perfect 105 points. With Murry as his co-driver, Stanton will look to continue his title bid at the remaining seven races.

"The opportunity came up to add David Murry to our lineup of professional drivers and pair him with Stanton, his long time co-driver," commented Team Owner Joe Nonnamaker. "We have watched Murry over the last ten years and he knows Porsches very well. I don't think we will skip a beat as we pursue repeating our Grand Sport Triple Crown Championship."

In his first three wins of the season, Craig Stanton was paired with Terry Borcheller. With Murry and Stanton paired together the driving duo will be split for the remainder of the season. Borcheller will pursue the Title with the #11 Powell Motorsport Cadillac.

"It was a great asset to have Terry as part of our team for the first three races," added Nonnamaker. "He is one of the more professional drivers we have had on our team. With the switch Terry had an opportunity to join the Powell Cadillac effort. That will provide him with a great opportunity and we were happy to make him a free agent to pursue that."

"This is pretty bittersweet, you know? It is great having David driving over here with me too," added Stanton. "We're really driving well together in the AASCO car and the Petersen Porsche over in the ALMS. But, Terry and I have been friends a long time and we have had an awful lot of success this season with the Nonnamakers. But, I feel really, really confident that David and I can pick-up where Terry and I left off. Terry is going to give us a lot of competition for sure and if it were almost any other guy other than David joining me in TheRaceSite.com Porsche I might be a little more worried. But, David and I are really clicking together so I'm eager to get to the next race and keep going for the championship and race wins. We're going for four wins in a row."

"I am very excited to join Craig driving the Grand Am Cup Porsche for the Nonnamakers," noted Murry. "They have always prepared a great car. It will be very hard to fill Terry's shoes especially with a three race winning streak. I can't wait to get started."

"The Nonnamaker family built a car that gave me a fantastic start to the
2004 Grand-Am Cup season, and I feel the Powell Motorsports Cadillac will be a fantastic way to finish the season," commented Borcheller about the mid season switch. "It has been a fun year for me so far. I had a great time with Joe, Will and Wayne Nonnamaker, and I know driving with Devon Powell will be equally as fun."

The team will continue to campaign its fleet of Porsches in the Grand Am Cup Series. The #43 Porsche 996 will run with Joe Nonnamaker and his son Wayne for the remainder of the season. The duo, who won the Grand Sport title last season, currently sit in third place in the Driver's Championship with 84 points.

TheRaceSite.com's title defending campaign in the Grand-Am Cup Grand Sport class is a reality due to the support from HRPworld.com, HAWK Performance, Kempthorn Auto Mall, SpeedSource, TheRaceMarket.com, K&N Performance Filters, Infinity2, Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving, North Jersey Dermatology Center, Grassroots Motorsports Magazine, and 9 Magazine.
