< Back to News Home Phoenix 2004 Race Review: Victory - Three Peat!!

Posted (04/13/2004) - Phoenix, AZ -- After three races TheRaceSite.com Racing has scored three consecutive victories. Team drivers Craig Stanton and Terry Borcheller, who pilot the #44 TheRaceSite.com Racing Porsche, have scored 105 out of a possible 105 points.

"It starts back with the Nonnamakers," commented Stanton in reference to the Nonnamaker family that owns the team. "This is a really seasoned team. They are very focused in this arena. The one-stop pit strategy worked great for us. I think we stretched the fuel load about as far as we could. In my stint, I wanted to put the car in the best position I could for Terry so I was pushing the Nissan pretty hard while trying to preserve our car. The Nissan was better on the banking but I could keep the pressure on him. I wanted to burn him down and I guess we did. Terry took over and put in a great stint and brought it home. It's pretty unbelievable how this whole team rallied. Three in a row! That's pretty cool! I'm really, really pleased for this whole effort."

The race ran on Friday night April 9th at 6:00 PM. The race ran its entire length of two and a half hours without caution despite the twenty eight cars on track. Borcheller and Stanton ended the race with a fifty four second advantage over second, nearly a full lap at the 1.51 mile circuit.

"We are very happy for Craig and Terry to be on the team," commented Crew Chief Mike Thomas. "They have both shown why they are considered some of the best in sportscar racing and with the three straight wins the team has a lot of momentum going into the final seven races."

TheRaceSite.com Racing is run by Phoenix ProMotions, the same team responsible for the 2003 Grand Sport Championship by Joe and Wayne Nonnamaker. This season the team looks to repeat their Championship from last season. The defending Champions, Joe and Wayne, have scored three consecutive fourth place finishes.

"We have had some bad luck so far this season," commented Wayne Nonnamaker. "This race our window net fell down of all things and that meant we had to make an extra pit stop. A fourth place is a good salvage of what could have been a disastrous weekend. The crew did a good job of giving me quick pit stops and good strategy.

"I am glad Terry and Craig had such a good race. Our Phoenix team has won the past three years here at Phoenix and to make that four in a row is amazing. I am not sure what it is about this track but it seems to like us a lot."

With their three fourth place finishes the #43 TheRaceSite.com Racing Porsche now sits in second place in the team points and drivers Joe and Wayne sit tied for third, behind Stanton and Borcheller. The team has a strong lead in the points as Borcheller and Stanton have 105, the Nonnamakers have 84, and the next closest competitor only has 62.

The team's third entry, the #40 TheRaceSite.com Racing Porsche 996, ran into trouble for the second consecutive race. An errant Nissan 350 Z ran into Dr. Joe Masessa in a hard braking zone. The car soldiered on to a seventeenth place finish.

"It is too bad what happened to Joe," commented Will Nonnamaker, finishing driver of the #40. "The driver apologized after the race but it still hurt our chances. We are excited about Mont Tremblant and I think our luck will change there.

"I also want to send congratulations out to SpeedSource Race Engineering," added Nonnamaker. "They have been a strong partner in our program over the last two years and they recently took their first victory in their new Mazda RX-8 in only their third race with the car."

TheRaceSite.com's title defending campaign in the Grand-Am Cup Grand Sport class is a reality due to the support from HRPworld.com, HAWK Performance, Kempthorn Auto Mall, SpeedSource, TheRaceMarket.com, K&N Filters, Infinity2, Bob Bondurant Driving Schools, North Jersey Dermatology Center,
