< Back to News Home 2004 Homestead Race Review: Stanton and Borcheller Take Second Win

Posted (03/30/2004) - Miami, FL - Craig Stanton and Terry Borcheller took home their second win in the second round of the Grand Am Cup season to lay claim to the Grand Am Cup Championship lead. The two drivers of TheRaceSite.com Racing (www.theracesiteracing.com) Porsche 996 ran perfect stints in the car to bring home the win.

"After two races we are very pleased with our choice of Craig [Stanton] and Terry [Borcheller] as our drivers for the #44 car," commented Will Nonnamaker, part of the Nonnamaker family that owns the team. "They are both extremely professional about their duties at the track and their performance on the track has proven very strong winning both races so far this season."

"We're two-for-two but that doesn't mean it will go that way the rest of the year," commented Stanton. "We are very optimistic for Phoenix but anything can happen. The 91 car lost all of its vital fluids right in front of me up in NASCAR three and four [turns three and four of the oval portion of the track] but we saved it somehow."

"We stayed out of trouble, which was the key to our success," Borcheller added. "Everybody else seemed to get themselves into trouble or were in the wrong place at the wrong time; a lot of fast cars had problems. Craig drove a tremendous opening stint and the crew did a really good job with the stops and the prep of the car."

"The Nonnamakers have a great organization," added Stanton. "The teamwork starts at the family and they set the tone. All the other crew guys and gals just follow suit. They are passionate racers. They want to win as much as Terry and I do. It's really exciting. The person who gets the drive of the day was Wayne. He had to come back a little and worked his way back up to fourth. If the yellow hadn't come out at the end, I think he would have been up on the podium with us."

The drive Stanton refers to was a race through the pack by Wayne Nonnamaker, finishing driver of the #43 TheRaceSite.com Racing Porsche. Nonnamaker scored fourth place along with his father, Joe. An early trip into the gravel trap cost the team. When Wayne got in to finish, the car was two laps down.

"I buried my head and drove as hard as I could," commented Wayne. "I had pretty much worn the car out when we got to the end of the race but we were able to drive up to fourth and had we went green at the end we might have had a shot at second."

The race ended under caution with second, third, and fourth place spots all in a line. The race would have went back green but a Sport Touring entry lost brakes during the caution and caused too much debris to be cleaned up before the three hours expired.

The team's third entry, the #40 TheRaceSite.com Racing entry had some bad luck for the day. Joe Masessa and Will Nonnamaker scored a 23rd finishing position in the 28 car field.

"Joe had a great race," commented Will. "He was running as high as sixth at one time. Unfortunately a Firebird took out three Porsches in one turn and Joe was one of them. Joe is progressing a lot as he learns these Porsches and I am really looking forward to running the Phoenix race with him."

After two races of the season, TheRaceSite.com Racing drivers sit 1-2-3-4 in the Point Standings. Craig Stanton and Terry Borcheller are tied for first in the points with 70 points. Joe Nonnamaker and Wayne Nonnamaker sit tied for third with 56 points. The team sits first and second in the Team Points and Porsche leads the Manufacturer Points.

TheRaceSite.com Racing will return to action at Phoenix International Raceway on April 9-10. The team will race their fleet of three Porsche 996s in the Grand Am Cup Grand Sport race on Friday night. The Phoenix Grand Am Cup race will air at 6:00 PM (EST) on April 18th.
