< Back to News Home Borcheller wins ROLEX 24 overall!!!!

Posted (02/20/2004) - TheRaceSite.com's Terry Borcheller is a busy man on Grand American weekends. Not only does Terry drive the SpeedSource Porsche in the GS class, but he pulls double duty in the ROLEX Grand American Series.

Terry has continued on with his 2003 ride with Bell Motorsports in the Daytona Prototype class. Last season, Borcheller won the first ever Daytona Prototype Driver's Championship.

This season, Terry has kicked his ROLEX season off with a bang by winning the prestigous ROLEX 24 of Daytona overall in the #54 KODAK Pontiac Doran.

This amazing accomplishment was achieved with stiff competition from a full Daytona Prototype field.

The ROLEX 24 hour win along with the Grand-Am Cup win with TheRaceSite.com were the 53rd and 54th of his career, his 8th and 9th at Daytona; the Florida superspeedway is the most successful track he's ever raced on.

The double victories also marked the eighth time in his career that he's won two races on the same weekend.

He also holds an amazing streak of four consecutive wins at Daytona, dating back to he July and November Daytona Prototype races.
His record in the Grand-American Rolex Sports Car Series is, perhaps, the most-envied: 25 races wins in 42 starts since 2000.

Borcheller used the Bell Motorsports team's new Pontiac power to qualify the No. 54 Bell Motorsports Doran JE4 third on the 55-car grid for the Rolex 24 at Daytona. He started the race, taking the lead at the green flag.
He and his co-drivers - Forest Barber of Fort Worth, Tex., Andy Pilgrim of Delray Beach, Fla., and Christian Fittipaldi of Key Biscayne, Fla. - stayed in the lead pack through the 24-hour race, which was slowed by a long caution period and a race stoppage caused by heavy rain. When the race resumed with 6.5 hours to go, the team was ready.

Pilgrim took the race lead 17 minutes from the finish and Barber made the final run to the checkered flag.

"The race was unbelievable!" Borcheller said. "We had a really good start. We struggled a little bit during the night with overheating, so we were in protection mode from nine o'clock until the end of the race. We had to run as hard as we could, but still make it last."

Again, congrats to Terry from TheRaceSite.com racing on a successful start to his ROLEX season.

TheRaceSite.com's title defending campaign in the Grand-Am Cup GS class is a reality due to the amazing support from HRPworld.com, DENSO Iridium Power, HAWK Brake, Kempthorn Auto Mall, SpeedSource, TheRaceMarket.com, K&N Filters, Infinity2, Bob Bondurant Driving Schools, North Jersey Dermatolgy Center, 9 Magazine, & Grassroots Motorsports Magazine
