Posted (01/07/2004) - DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Grand American Road Racing Association President Roger Edmondson announced the 2004 schedule for the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series and Grand-Am Cup Series during a press conference held at Daytona International Speedway.

Edmondson announced 11 race dates for the Rolex Series and nine races for the Grand-Am Cup , but noted that he anticipates additional dates being added in the coming weeks.

"We are currently announcing only the events that we have confirmed at this time. However, we hope to add one additional date to the Rolex Series schedule to bring it up to 12 races, and we plan to add one or two more races to the Grand-Am Cup schedule, making it a 10- or 11-race season," remarked Edmondson.

"Our teams have been awaiting the announcement of our 2004 schedule, but we wanted to make sure any information we provide to them is reliable. This is why we have chosen to release only those events where we have written agreements with the promoters," he added.

Both series kick off the 2004 season at Daytona International Speedway with the Rolex 24 At Daytona weekend, January 29 - February 1. However, for the first time both series will wrap-up the season at California Speedway, October 29-31.

The Rolex Series schedule includes two combined events with the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series at Daytona International Speedway, June 30 - July 1, and Watkins Glen International, August 12-13, in additional to one event with the IRL IndyCar Series at Homestead-Miami Speedway, February 26-28.

The Rolex Series will run two events at Homestead-Miami Speedway, returning to South Florida with the Grand-Am Cup Series, September 10-12.

Both series travel westward to Phoenix International Raceway for an Easter weekend event, April 8-10, that will wrap-up on Saturday evening before the holiday.

Both series will also race at Watkins Glen International in the June 18-20 Sahlen's Sports Car Grand Prix, featuring the Rolex Series in the Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen.

Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course will host both series, August 6-8, and Virginia International Raceway and Barber Motorsports Park will be the sites of back-to-back events in October for the Rolex Series and Grand-Am Cup. The series will race at VIR on October 1-3, and Barber Motorsports Park on October 8-10.
