Posted (07/15/2003) - North Canton, OH -- Phoenix ProMotions (PhoenixProRacing.com), the team responsible for the preparation of the Grand-Am Cup Sport Touring II HRPWorld.com Racing Acuras and the Grand Sport II Planet Earth Motorsports Porsches has announced the purchase of the #66 and the #70 SpeedSource Porsche GT3 Cup machines. Following the announcement last week by Grand American, the team will campaign the Porsches in the newly formed Super Grand Sport (SGS) class in the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series in 2004. Joe Nonnamaker and Wayne Nonnamaker were named as drivers for one of the two Porsches. The team will continue to campaign two Porsches in the Grand-Am Cup Series Grand Sport class in 2004 with Will Nonnamaker heading that driver lineup.

This past week, Grand American announced that the Grand Sport I class, the premiere division of Grand-Am Cup, will move into the Rolex Series and be called Super Grand Sport in 2004. The Grand Sport II class, in which the Phoenix team currently campaigns two Porsche 911s, will be renamed Grand Sport (GS) and become the premiere class in Grand-Am Cup.

"This is the first time we have been able to announce our plans in July," commented Joe Nonnamaker, father of Will (31) and Wayne (25). "Wayne and I will be driving one of the GT3 Cups next season in SGS, but since it is only July we have not filled up the second car yet. We are looking for funded drivers to fill that car for the entire 2004 season. We are very excited to be running as part of the Rolex Series next season. The Rolex Series is the 'big show' and that will be a big benefit to out corporate partners - GOJO and Orison Marketing."

The team also announced that it would campaign its current Porsche 911 996 machines in the Grand Sport class in 2004. Three-time ST II driver champion Will Nonnamaker, who earned the GS II class pole at Mid-Ohio, will head the driving lineup in the car.

"Getting a chance to drive our second Porsche in split races has been a great growth towards next season," commented Will Nonnamaker. "The Porsche is such an exciting car to drive and being the premiere class in Grand-Am Cup next season will really aid us in promoting our partners. In addition to promoting our partners, I personally am very excited to be driving in the top class for the first time in my career. I think the prestige will be a great opportunity for drivers who come onboard with us in our second Grand Sport Porsche as well."

"We are not losing focus on what our priorities are this year - championships," added Wayne Nonnamaker, who will drive in the SGS class next season. "We are in the hunt for both the Grand Sport II and the Sport Touring II triple crowns, and we are not going to let this new development distract us. However, this opportunity came up mid-season when out technical partner, SpeedSource, bought Multimatic Daytona Prototypes. We have confidence that SpeedSource will continue with their winning ways in the DP class. We just hope to continue their winning heritage in Porsches with these two new additions to out stable."

"We were excited that our Porsches went to such a good home," commented Sylvain Tremblay, owner of SpeedSource. "The Phoenix team has put together a strong GS II class effort this season and everyone at SpeedSource is excited to help them make the transition into the SGS class."

The 2004 season will start out with the Rolex 24 At Daytona, January 29-February 1. The Grand-Am Cup season picks back up at Mosport International Raceway, September 12-14. Parties interested in the 2004 SGS or GS class ride should contact Will Nonnamaker at 330-497-4484 ext 23.
